Leaving for eastern Montana today for our annual mule deer hunt. I can't wait to get there and check out this years buck crop. I'll have photos and a story when I return after next week.

From what I hear from my family it is a good one. My dad shot a really nice 25" 5x6 last week, will post pics when I get them. But everyone has been seeing big bucks like crazy. Wish I were there. Good luck and have fun.

I wish you luck but will tell you that out of state hunters aren't greeted like they use to be. People are sick of all the out of state people. I know many ranchers that won't let out of state people hunt anymore. I personally am tired of them also. Good luck.

Everybody is an out of stater somewhere. I will definitely make sure I go out of my way to make your hunt as bad as possible if you come to Idaho.

I'm just telling you the way is. Everybody is an out of state hunter? Is that a true statement.

I don't think that nebo has anything against you personally, but he is just telling things how they are. Some parts of the state have a bad taste left in their mouth from a few inconsiderate people. I grew up in 7 county, and in many places today, landowners won't let people with 7 county plates hunt on their land...people don't forget quickly, and by some of the things I've seen, from both in-state and out-of-state hunters, I can't blame them. On the other hand, parts of the state welcome hunters, as they bring in $$ for the local economy. That's probably more applicable to bird hunters, but there's places where it applies to big game hunters as well.

This is my post

I've just pissed in my pants.......and nobody can do anything about it.

smokepoler let us know how it goes. I'm from Eastern Montana. Which part you going to hunt? Good luck to you. I'll be headed that way for the last week of the season.

Headed there the week of Thanksgiving.

"THANKS for letting me TRESPASS in your state"
"Thanks for GIVING me the chance a a decent buck / bull"

Be looking for my Oregon plates "BGBUCK". If I see you nebo, I will personally thank you...in my way!

I'm sorry for the the way 2 of you are responding to the post. One of them could even be a threat. That is way people from this state may not welcome out of state hunter with open arms. You read it right here and these comments carry over just how some may hunt and act when they come here. Thanks to OLD MAN OF THE HILLS that is exactly what I meant. Sorry that is the way it is going here in the state you can take it or leave it but it is the truth.

So Nebo what part of the state are you in?

Muleyman where you headed? I'll be there the same time. I grew up in Dawson County and that's where I'll be.

LAST EDITED ON Nov-04-07 AT 01:08PM (MST)[p]I read each post on this thread, and it sounds to me like there may be some banjo music to be heard in Montana these days.

Nebo - it really doesn't matter WHAT you meant, its just too bad that one A-hole comment can make a whole state look like inconsiderate tards, but kudos to you for banging that one home.

There is plenty of banjo music where I reside today, I just paddle faster when I hear it. Growing up in Montana on the Powder River the only thing I heard strumming was an occasional sheep herder, usually it was just the gurgle of the river.

We arrive in Montana on the 17th and the big ranches we hunt will welcome us with open arms.

Maybe because our checks have been cashed or maybe because so many are life long friends. Maybe both. It's funny how that works. Money does strange things to people.

Hunt safe and good hunting to all.

Good luck on your hunt. I just got back from antelope hunting around Lewistown and it was pretty good. I did see more mule deer than i have ever seen in the last 5 years. Its good to see that the deer are doing very well. I didnt see any real bruisers just the typical spindley sage bucks. Biggest buck I saw was about a 26" 160 buck but i know there are bigger ones around. Have fun!

HuntFx4- headed to Bonner. I have friends there that I grew up with. I was there in Sept during achery season and had a great time. We killed one bull and now it's my turn to hopefully fill my tags!

Nebo-If you knew me, and by the comment made about thanking you in my own way, I meant.....giving you a big hug and thanking you for your warm welcome to MT ;) I love this state, every year my family comes over to visit friends. They own McNamera's Landing Lodges out of Bonner on the Blackfoot river.

The two times I have hunted in MT, I have never encountered a bad attitude with a resident from me being from OR. ONCE this year we did have a group of out-of-staters that were hunting the Paws ranch give us some crap for stopping a "drooling" over the bulls in their field. They said we were bothering "their" heard of elk that they were hunting, out of a tree stand right off the road that seperates private from public. The plates were from CA. No hard feelings nebo, I just know that when I have run into out-of staters here in OR, I don't give them crap for being here, I just don't give up info that their usually asking for.

Good luck everyone!...muleyman

I kind of like out of staters. They keep my tag and license fees affordable. I grew up in Montana and still have friends and family there. I will retire in Anaconda in a few years. Montana residents have probably the lowest deer and elk licenses in the west. Even if the landowners don't like us the hunters should. Just telling you like it is.

And yes, everyone is an out of stater somewhere.
