All I know is he's from Rawlins and going to school at UW. There was another photograph of his antelope with the Ferris Mountains in the background. I'm sure the mule deer was from central to south central Wyoming as well. The photos came from the wyomingoutdoorsradio.com website.
I've never quite been able to figure out why people look at a rack configuration and automatically assume its a cross... While that buck is somewhat unique, I would be very sceptical calling it a cross just because of the 'look' of the antlers.
My dad shot one last year that had the color of a mule deer, the ears of a mule deer, the size of a mule deer, the antlers of a white tail, the white tail of a white tail and the F&G officer at the check stand tried to tell us that the buck was a "big-bodied" white tail.
He shot it in south central Idaho in the same draw where I had shot a large 4x4 muley the year before. Every year we see more and more white tail deer in this area. I don't doubt they cross...
LAST EDITED ON Nov-06-07 AT 05:40PM (MST)[p]I agree, GPW. Looks like a cross to me as well. I read an article on another website that said mulie/whitetail crossbreeds are sterile. Here is the article. Very interesting. http://www.coueswhitetail.com/coues_biology/hybrids.htm
