Just wanted to let all of you know to take extra precaution on your hunting trips this year.

I just went to colorado for our yearly out of state trip and stopped in vegas on the way home to southern Calif.

Checked into Silverton Casino and parked in the Bass Pro Shops parking lot c. Checked in approx 10:30AM on Tuesday 11/6/07. Went and got some grub. Went gift shopping for the wife and kids at Bass Pro and dropped off the gifts at the truck around 1:30PM on Tuesday. After checking out of the hotel yesterday (Wednesday) morning, we walk out to the parking lot and Truck and trailer was gone.

Our truck had our jumping jack trailer locked to it. Our two quads were locked on top of the trailer. Neeless to say all of our toys were inside the truck. Spotting scopes, binoculars, rangefinders, bows, two rifles, two glocks, packs, hunting clothes, three coolers and the list goes on........

To top it all off, my 22" 4x4 buck was in the back of the truck and my extra beer!!!!!!!

Lock everything up!! Including trailer tires or use "the club."

Hope everyone had a good trip this year.

DAMN! That kinda $hit just pisses a guy off! Makes you wish you could find'em and give a high country tune up, "Vegas Style". Like what was said above, hope you had it all insured, and hopefully they find the SOB's. Scott

My buds had the same thing happen to them last year just outside of Lost Wages in Henderson NV. The bastards got of with over 100k worth of crap.Quads 3 of them one had less than 1 hour on it and guns and bows and gear and about 10k in optics and one guy had 5k in the glove box to buy a landowner tag when he got to NM(stuip i know). The theives hit the jackpot on my budies tuck. They were coverd pretty good but they thought the quads would be coverd if hooked to the truck but they found out the hard way that an umbrella policy will only go so far.

Vegas is full of scum sucking thief?s. The thief?s down their will steal anything for a fix. We had over 50,000 in goods stolen from us in Henderson just outside of Vegas. Ours was insured so it didn't hurt as bad.

This also goes to show you can't just leave your trailer up in the hills anymore, or leave a generator unattended, when out hunting or some a-hole will eventually come and steal it.

Sorry for your guys loss!

We are just beginning the insurance process thing.

I will keep everyone posted as more updates become available.

That sucks!

My father in law had his F250 stolen out of a parking garage in Vegas a couple years ago. The cops found it about 3 weeks later, not really any worse for the wear, but everything that wasn't bolted down was gone, and a few things that were bolted.

Hope you get it back in one piece.

Did you check with the Silverton and Bass Pro for security video surveillance? Pretty sure that parking lot is covered by cameras.

Ed,

Yes we filed the report with both the hotel security and the LV Metro PD.

Silverton security said they would check video, but we had to check back with them in about five days. They would probably have more info for us then.

Coming back from a hunt last year my dad and I stopped for the night at stateline. Some bastards broke in and took about everything, luckily they left the truck and deer. 2 rifles, 2 muzz guns, binos, spotting scopes, back packs with all gear...you guys get the point.

Unfortunately us hunters stick out like a sore thumb and are easy to spot. These theives know we have valuble items...
I will never leave my valubles in the truck overnight again, no matter where I am staying.

I think it is time we all start hunting for a new prey!

This is the reason I sleep in the truck if I travel long distance, I have heard this story so many times.

Sounds like the police depts. need to set up some sting opps. in these casino parking lots during the deer seasons.

I know it's against the law and we would go to prison for it but wouldnt it be nice to catch these skum suckers in the act and do some vigilanty (sp?) justice. I have a good imagination when it comes to stuff like this.If only I could get away with it.

Hope you guys get some resolution for your losses.

ya it seems that you cant leave anything out these days. My tail gate was stole off my truck yesterday

Update.

I just got the call from the Vegas PD that the truck was recovered on 11/10/07.

It does not sound as if they recovered the trailer/quads. Vegas PD could not release an inventory list over the phone. I have to either go in person or mail in a request for the copy of the report.

I am making arrangements as to get the truck back ASAP.

I will keep everyone posted.

Two years ago, some guys rolled a durango on the west desert. I passed them and a sherrif on my way to move cows. I got part way to our ranch and had to return home cause i forgot my gate keys. The guys had ran to Vernon with the cop and called a buddy to haul their truck home. They were gone 50 minutes and came back to find all 4 tires and rims gone! I helped them roll the truck onto a flat bed trailer upside down for the ride home. This happened 35 miles from any paved road. Scum are lots of places and we need to thin them out a little. Like Ted Nugent says, "I don't believe in repeat offenders i believe in dead offenders!"

Protecting a whole rig with a locked on trailer/quads is tuff to do. Not to hijack this thread but I would like to share my experience so that some of us might not experience these same or similar misfortunes.

Two years back I came from a Colorado hunt and pulled into Flagstaff, AZ about 2 am on my way to a late bull hunt. Thought since I was at a well-established Motel so late, parked under a bright street light with no other vehicles around in the parking lot, I'd be safe. After all, we've left equipment in the truck before, right? I was tired and just wanted to get a few hours sleep and a quick shower.

Same set-up. ? ton loaded to the bedrails pulling a locked on ATV trailer with two quads. I grabbed my clothes bag and went to check in. Proceeded to the room and thought ?nah? nobodies gonna mess with it. I'll only be here a few hours?. The cab had all our gear darn near packed to the ceiling with two gun cases (two rifles each) burried on the back floor. There was no way to see them from the outside of the cab.

Well let me tell you, when I walked out the next morning and saw a sleeping bag under the truck I got the ugliest feeling in my stomach. Running over to the opposite side I found my passenger window busted out, doors wide open with lots of gear pulled out of the cab and the two gun cases gone. My guess is the guy wasn?t there for more than 30 seconds. To this day it is the sickest feeling I have ever felt in my life. I lost two days effort in acquiring another firearm, replacing a window, a ton of long distance calls, etc, etc. You know what the second sickest feeling was? Having to call up your buddy to tell him his two rifles were stolen. Yea, that hurt!!! Not that this has made a difference in my case but how many of you have your firearm(s) serial number written down? How about the scope serial number? Binos? Spotter? The detective will want to know. It adds up big time. Not only the monetary value but also the memories are priceless. I have this really faint thought every once in a while that someday I might get a phone call because of a registration hit on our rifles (the only positive I see in the registration system) but I ain?t holding my breath.

So I share this as a self-imposed sentence of showing my stupidity in trusting our society as I did that day. NEVER again will I subject equipment to chance like that. So please, learn from my mistake and don't let 30 minutes worth of extra effort ruin a hunt you most likely have waited all year to experience.

Let the thrashing begin!!!

I can almost feel your pain, having my truck stolen when it was 4 months old.

I ran into the same dilema hunting this past deer hunt. Had to make several long trips from deep inside unit 10 (by the canyon) all the way to Phoenix to pick up and drop my son off at the airport in the middle of the season. About 5 hours drive each way, after a full day of hunting. Man, I hated having to pull all that stuff out of the truck when I just wanted a few hours sleep, but did it anyway.

No high dollar value items (guns, binos, spotters, lrf, etc) or hunt important items (marked maps, gps's, etc) ever get left in the truck overnight. It's a pain in the rear to cart all that stuff into the hotel room, but I do sleep better knowing my hunt won't be ruined by thieves.

Sad that it's come to that, but that's where we find ourselves.

2nd Update.

Our truck was recovered minus the trailer, quads, two rifles, one bow, two handguns, and one ipod.

Everything else was returned (including all glass.)

My deer horns/skull was also returned.

I figure right now I am ahead of the game.

Still working on the missing items. I will list an update if they show up.

By the way,
I live in UT.
There are a lot of UTARDS that live here.
I have also seen quite a few WYOMORONS, NEVADUHNS, COLORADORKS, ID-IOTS and AIRHEADZONANS in my travels.

3rd update.

As it turns out, our two rifles and one bow were recovered when they found the truck.

North Las Vegas Police department unfortunately, neglected to mention this to me. I found out only because I requested a copy of the report that inventoried the items when the truck was recovered.

Remainder still missing: one ipod, two glocks, one trailer, two quads.

I will repost if anything else shows up.
