CO Tagging ?

I notice a lot of tags being put on antlers here in Colorado. This is what is done in many other states but aren't Colorado tags carcass tags? Should they not be attached to the carcass and not to the antlers? I know some people attach them to the antlers because they transfer the head attached to the animal but is that acceptable by the DOW? I'm curious to know what everyone thinks.

My understanding is it needs to be atached to the largest part of the animal so if the animal is whole then I would think that it would be OK to put it on the horn, if it is quartered it should be on the largest quarter or largest piece of meat..

Colorado has carcass tags. As long as the head remains attached to the carcass, the tag on the antlers is fine. If the head is removed, the tag needs to stay on/with the carcass.

if the deer is still intact why would it matter, what after the meat has been butchered and on the way home antler o.k ?

That's kind of my question. What if you do drop off your deer, elk, etc. to be processed? The tag usually stays with the animal then, your transporting the head without a tag. Is there another portion to the tag that is for transferring? I understand if the entire animal is in tact but I guess the question lies with when one detaches the head, quarters out an animal or bones one out. What is the correct way of transferring?
Thanks,

yes there is another part of the tag that you can transport the head with if youve taken the meat to the processor, without getting into any trouble.
