General Archery Elk

Is anybody willing to help me out a little? I know giving away areas that have animals is not a common thing, but I'm really looking for a General Archery Elk area that I might possibly have success in? I've never elk hunted before and am certainly not looking for anything big! I just want a good time and to see elk! THANKS!

If you are interested in Spikes and Cows, there are lots of options.
For Any Bull, you are a little more limited, and have a tougher time of finding elk ahead.

What are your thoughts on that? Spikes and Cows, or Any bulls?

Spike and cows on le areas should be easy to see elk. Pick a unit like Wasatch or Manti and start hiking. Pretty simple really. If your talking any bull areas... good luck getting someone to tell you about that. I spent 4 years of hiking to find a area with good elk numbers. Better start hiking and scouting. It'll be much more rewarding finding them on your own then getting a hand out.

Thanks for the help!! I'd rather do a any bull, but I understand how hard it is too find an area! I'm just trying to find a general area, nothing too specific, just a start so I can go out and find some areas!

+1 31incher...my brothers and I have a 'blood oath' to not ever disclose our general archery elk hunting area. Just too darn hard to start over finding and developing a good, hardly used area. Not going to even mention what part of the state it is in on a public forum.

But I agree with above posters, you gotta get out and cover some ground in the backcountry. Don't expect to have easy access to elk in general areas. Get at least a few miles from roads and get away from trails and get into 'elky' areas (good feed/water, etc). Then make sure you have a good strategy for how you are going to get the meat (and maybe horns) out without wasting it. Not so easy. And you better be in shape and/or have access to horses or lots of good friends nearby.

Also, look for elk sign. You don't have to see the elk to know if it is a good area. So you could effectively accomplish this before next season if you have time to do some hiking.

After all that, if you find a good area, you have earned the right to keep it to yourself and not share it on the internet. Good luck!

P.S.
When some guys discover your great area and bring all their friends and relatives in and ruin it, guess what? You get to start all over again. FUN!!!!

The Uintas can be a great place for the OTC utah elk. If you are willing to hike and stay overnight you can find elk if you put on some miles. Wasatch holds bulls that you can hunt clear until December with the OTC license but you won't find as much room to hunt and more people. Some good bulls though.
