Two buddies and I drew general elk tags in Wyoming this and we are stoked. We have some areas that we are going to be hunting Im just curious what kind of bulls are we looking at on a general unit. Im just super excited to be able to go hunt there this year Ill probably shoot the first bull we see. Thanks for the input.

LAST EDITED ON Feb-25-14 AT 07:54PM (MST)[p]Any bull elk killed legally is a great trophy! Have fun and good luck!
I drew 2 years in a row and killed a nice 290" bull the first year and small 3x3 the next year so it can be done!

For a general tag if you have never been out here I would say any bull would be a huge trophy. If you are lucky you can find great bulls in even the general areas. One of the guys I work with took a 365 bull out of a general area 2 years ago. I have taken elk from spikes to 330 class 6x6 and everything in between. Get in shape get away from the roads and you will have a ball.

Where I hunt in Wyoming on a general tag, I've never passed on a shot opportunity at a legal bull. I have right at a 50% success rate hunting one week each year as a nonresident. I do hunt with a friend who is a resident and that makes the learning curve on finding where the elk are a lot shorter. Good luck.

just like any general unit its the time and hard work you put in or pure luck.

Could find a bull from a spike to 400".
