Thanks rackmaster for posting the picture for me. It was one heck of a hunt. My dad and I were actualy, hunting elk. Two days before we got our deer, we were on the same ridge and my dad took a nice little raghorn bull. So we rested the horses for a day. And decided to go back up to the same spot and try to find another bull. It's about a 8 mile ride to where we wanted to be at daylight. 3 a.m. comes early, but it's always worth it when you're going hunting.
Anyway, as soon as we topped out on the ridge we tied up the horses and I snuck over the top to see if there were any animals close. 200 yards down the ridge was a nice 24" 3x4 rubbing a tree. As we looked him over we could tell he was a nice buck. But we were trying to find an elk. So we decided to go look for elk and if he was around when we got back my dad would take him.
After about an hour of looking for elk and only finding cows. We were heading back to the horses and there 100 yrds from the horses was the 3x4. He was just standing there looking at the horses. I ranged him for my dad and he took him with one shot through the heart. As my dad unloaded his gun he said now watch the big one will walk out. And thats just what happened.
As we were picking up our stuff. my dad said there is a big bodied deer look at him through your'e spotting scope. And as soon as I saw the cheater I knew I needed to shoot that deer. At 330 yards I shot him twice. But the second shot wasn't needed. When we walked up to him I almost couldn't stand It's the biggest deer I have ever seen on the ground. Horn and body.
Taking this deer was awsome but the best part was sharing it with my dad. Being able to take two great deer 5 minutes apart, doesn't happen every day. And who says all big deer are smart. These deer were both curious. We were probably the first hunters they had ever seen.
I would also like to add, all of the deer I have seen this season have been in great shape. These two bucks were so fat they looked like pigs. And most of the does I have seen this year have had little ones with them. So maybe the good old days are just around the corner.

That is a great story. Congratulations on one of the finest bucks taken this year.
Sounds like you guys had a great hunt, and it was well deserved.

Congrats.

good one, 'fool'...congratulations to both you and your pops...always adds to the fun to have your dad with you...
