I just returned from my South Dakota muley hunt and wanted to share a couple of photos. The hunt was a lot of fun however it was over for me very early as I killed this buck at 7:45 a.m. on opening day, but when I saw him I couldn't hold off. I am really pleased with him as he has all the things I like, good mass, good forks, a couple of stickers and fairly wide. He's 29" wide outside and 26" inside spread. He taped out at 174 and I don't think I could have been happier.

I relate the story about how I got him later.

Jim

p.s.

The last photo is the buck my hunting partner killed on Sunday morning. The buck was really wide with a 33 1/2 inch inside spread. Pretty cool looking deer and needless to say he was really happy.

those are both really great bucks. they are both really neat in the way that their antlers grew out. Congrats and hope you remember the hunt for years to come!

Very good bucks. I spent a couple of years on ND. What part of the state did you find him in, if you do not mind sharing.

Great Deer!

Nice job

Thank you bowhunt.. I was hunting east of Rapid City in the Wasta area. Great area, Lots of deer.

Jim, that's a beautiful classic big buck! Perfect! Big time congratulations to you and your partner.

Eel

Looks like it was a great hunt, that 30" was rubbing his horns pretty good with the shiney part on his antlers showing up like that, I think I would of been done too at 7:43Trying to beat you to him) LOL. If I would seen him, How was the rest of the trip did you see alot of deer and elk and any other good bucks. Glad you got a good one.

Thanks Gator.. I couldn't believe the sheer numbers of deer.. Mostly muleys but I also saw quite a few whitetails as well. One of the guys in the camp killed a nice whitetail on Monday and Iwish I would have gotten a pic.. He was agood one. Din't see any elk but I think I saw about 3 million antelope.. damn things were everywhere. The muleys were really getting in to the rut towards the end of my trip and I saw some incredible bucks standing in the fields with lots of does and they refused to leave them. Overall the trip was nothing short of great.. lots of deer, but more importantly very nice people.. I really had a good time plus I tried to burn up the barrel on my .270 eradicating prarie dogs.. that was also a lot of fun even though many were safe from me...

Nice bucks! Go easy on the ears though, You might pull em off you pull any harder! Haha jk. Congrats on some great bucks!

Timberline

Thanks Timberline... Funny thing about his ears... The right one had about 1/3 of it missing.. I don't know if something bit it off or it got frostbite sometime during his life but there was a good portion of it missing.

LAST EDITED ON Nov-19-07 AT 06:44AM (MST)[p]Congratulations on two outstanding bucks. I would take either on opening morning. Great story and fantastic pics. Thanks for sharing.

Nice bucks, I just got back from my first SD experience. Great time! I only hunted Whitetails and killed two nice bucks. Saw tons of mulies and goats too. I hope I get invited back next year.

Great buck! He has everything!
I was curious if this was a guided hunt? You mentioned another guy in "camp" and wondered if it was private land guided or public land DIY?

Great buck no matter what!

Was this a guided hunt? Private land? Leased land? I'd say an educated guess says it wasn't on land open to the general public.

Blackdeath - a3dhunter,

Since I was going to be hunting this year by myself and I picked up a few extra bucks I decided to treat myself to a guided hunt which is something I don't get to do often... Well as it turned out I am sure glad I did because I had a very good time. Having never been there before I was unsure of what I had gotten myself in to but all of that was for not. The hunt turned out great, met some real good people, fantastic hunting, and I have absolutely no regrets. I can't wait to go back next year.

Thanks guy's for all the nice words. This is the first photos I have posted on MM.

Jim

Gator, I hunted a ranch on Rapid creek and the Cheyenne river. I haven't got the pictures downloaded yet. The bucks were not big, but both nine pointers and excited me!

Gah!

Nice deer but tuck the tongues in before taking pictures! Here I fixed them for ya:
