Colorado hunting

How did the Colorado hunting go in general this season? We hunted the 4th season Unit 44 elk. It was tough. In the past I've always seen at least a half dozen shooter bucks and a few elk. Practically nothing this year. Just too nice up there.

I talked to one deer hunter that was giving it up after three days. He burned ten pp's to draw.

After burning ten points theres no way i would give up after 3 days. You have to hang in there to the end you never know what is going to happen.

Been wondering the same thing. From what I saw living in NW CO, first season elk was average to below average, second season was average all around ( had some snow, saw a few nice bucks taken, not many though) third season poor for elk, below average for deer, talked to alot guys that did not fill their tags.I hunted deer hard all week saw only a few and very little elk in areas that normal hold alot that time of year. 4th season poor all around. I did not see one animal in a truck. It will be interesting when harvest numbers come out and see if the DOW does anything. The way I see it more bigger aninals next year( if winter is not to bad) and more sheds to find. The wx is still hot and dry, no big snows in sight.

We found elk way up high during the 4th season in central Colo, like nosebleed high. My pard and I both filled our tags, he harvested his cow and I took a 5x5 bull. It was probably one of the most rewarding hunts I have done in recent years. We had to backpack all the meat off the mountain.

We hunted 54 3rd season and it was tough. NO snow, no weather, just local bucks spread all over the place. No rut either. The boys were fleming (sp) but the girls were NoT interested.

Hunted the third season unit 44. The deer stuck to the apens and timber most of the time. The big guys liked it in the thick stuff. Hunting them was painfully slow and frustating. Got my ass kicked by the big guys. Last day got a heavy 4x4 with 5inch eyeguards and deep forks. He'd snuck out on me three differant times, but made the mistake on using his aspen choked draw he liked once to often. Burned all seven points, but the hunting was hard and exciting, the way it ought to be. Loved every second of it. 280rem

280REM....way to stick with it, sounds like it paid off big for you. I bet you saw some beautiful country on your hunt.

I hunted 43 with a cow tag and ate it!
I hunted up around 11000' in and around the Maroon Bells-Snowmass wilderness and saw the most sign but still couldnt fing the elk.
Saw a few bucks (nothing big) and they were as 'dumb' as could be with their nose to the ground and only 1 thing on their mind.
