Book Cliffs Roadless Muzzy Elk hunt

So a really good friend (more like my brother) pulled this tag with twelve points and he has asked me to help him on this hunt. Between both of us we have plenty of horses and all the gear for a pack string. My question is neither one of us has ever stepped foot on the book cliffs before. Being from Pinedale Wyoming I'm no stranger to long pack trips into the wilderness for Elk, but I'm not really sure what to expect on this hunt. Any recommendations would be helpful. How has the trophy quality been down there the last couple of years? Please feel free to PM if you would like.

Your in for ONE HELLAVA HUNT !!!

Quality has held up pretty well there ..

Coming from Wyoming, you'll probly want to come in from the
north access, Seep ridge,Ten mile knoll, Diamond ridge,,,
Into East willow..Be adivesed though, LONG ways after Vernal,
no gas stations, and have spare tires ......

Agreed with Goofy, is an amazing area. We will be hunting the roaded side on my dad's muzzy hunt. So we may see you on the way in or out.
The Books are amazing, it is a very neat place unlike any other I have been. My brother had the muzzy tag in 2011 and we had a great time.
Goofy is correct though, you are a LONG ways from anything so make sure you come prepared. Good luck!

Check out some of the video taken of the Bookcliff elk hunts on MM and youtube.
Kevin Jaramillo has one of a hunt in BC hope it the same area you are looking. Good luck hoping to draw this area in a few years.

I appreciate the info and the info from PM's. I didn't realize how remote and out of the way this area is, but that's what we're looking for. We are taking someone who's family over the years has harvested their share of bulls from the area. Hopefully it hasn't changed too much in the last 2-3 years. Again any info is appreciated.

It's not as remote as it was. There is a 60 MPH road to within 30 miles of the Ten Mile Knoll trailhead now from the north. I live in Roosevelt, and it's 106 miles from here to there (the trail head). Good luck. BacDoc

I took some video of this bull out there this morning. I'm not sure how to send a PM? I'd be happy to share any information I have. Congrats on the tag.
