Utah Diamond Mountain Archery Hunt

Hey Guys,
I drew a South Slope Diamond Mt Archery tag and haven't spent much time in the area. I live only about an hour or so from the unit so I have lots of opportunity to scout. I was wondering if anyone has hunted this unit during the archery season and would be willing to help a fellow hunter out. This will be my third year elk hunting and I'm yet to take one with a bow. If anyone has some info on where my best chances would be or where I should concentrate my scouting efforts I would greatly appreciate it!

Also, am I better off spending my time this month covering ground and looking for sign, or glassing and trying to find elk?

Thanks in advance!

I have 3 friends and family members draw this unit. it should be a fun year on the mtn. cincorvia it might be a good idea to add to the site before making your 1st post a request for help. toooo many times we help and never see the poster again. just a suggestion.

How to start an argument online:
1. Express an opinion
2. Wait

I had the tag last year, didnt kill though. Lots and Lots of Private land up there.

PM me and I may help you out.

+1, you had better plan on plenty of scouting before season ever arrives just to learn the public/private boundaries... Doable just takes lots of time.

Let me guess, you drive a 1 ton with oak trees for smoke stacks, 12" lift kit and 40" tires to pull a single place lawn mower trailer?

I was scouting during the archery elk hunt on Diamond two years ago. I ran into a couple archery elk hunters and talked to them about what I had seen and what they had seen. They were having a tough time and weren't seeing much and they couldn't get any to respond to calls. I pointed out a wallow for them to go sit on where I had seen a lot of activity around it. I don't know how they ended up doing but, they were about ready to take any bull they could get in on.

I have lots of information about that unit. I think I could be of assistance if you need additional information.

If you only live an hour away then you should have plenty of opportunity to go scout most of it out for yourself.

Where do you live? Duchesne?

I drew the same tag! Should be a fun hunt. Where are you planning on camping at? From the looks of the unit camping areas are kind of limited. Also are you planning on hunting the entire season or select weeks?

Congrats man! I will be hunting the whole season as I live pretty close to the unit. I haven't decided where I'm going to focus my hunting, so I'm not sure on camping. I might end up back packing for a lot of the season, at least on the weekends. I'll probably do three day weekends and then as many evenings as I can. Have you spent much time on Diamond?

I have been up there one time just about a month ago after my credit card got hit. I have hunted just across the state line in Colorado several times though. We mainly checked out the north eastern part of the unit when I was there. I hope to make it back later in July and check out some other areas.

I had the tag there 5 Years ago and found lots of public land. You need to get a map from the city that shows all the private and public land. I had a friend pick me up one so I am not sure exactly what he paid and where he got it. It helped a ton and enabled me to harvest this bull in an area that looked like all private.

The biggest bulls I saw were closer to the Colorado boarder but they where harder to hunt and a few more people over there.
