what happened to huntodds.com?

I was into that site a month ago and just today tried it again and ZAP not there. Don't know what happened to him.

Kirt and Aaron have joined the Huntin' Fool team. It appears that you will need to be a Huntin' Fool member to utilize their products now.

Man, I loved HuntOdds.com. Too bad. I am trying to decide if it is worth $100 to try to learn how to interpret CO preference point data output that they put on their website.

Dax

I saw on tv the other day a new site, hunterstrailhead.com. It seems to have much of the same information there.

Your welcome. :)

Yes they have joined HuntinFool and as a memeber you have all the good intel they provided via huntodds......

I have already been on it a couple times...they are slowly getting all states and species switch over.

It is real kool too!

I think it is sad to see people out for the money just to give info that is available to the public.
Obviously the people associated with huntodds.com were only concerned with the money or they wouldn't have joined the biggest ripoff in the hunting community. What a waste!
Didn't they advertise that it was a free service, just another gimmick to get people to use the website so they could cash their check and laugh all the way to the bank!
I wonder how many thousands of people will still be listening to what Carter's have to say, instead of hunters sharing info and helping each other.

So sad. I loved that website. Thanks for the info. on huntertrailhead... IMO need all the western states.

Thats sucks they had alot of great info. I am not going to pay a hundred dollars for access to that info. All about $$$$

Ridiculous.

What's next? They buy all the land-owner permits in certain units then tell everyone those are the best units around?...oh wait....

The dude that made that website visits here on occasion, good guy. I think it is silly that some begrudge him for trying to make a profit from something he obviously spent a lot of his own time developing. :*

No kidding BFE!

I guess you guys complaining will go to work Monday for nothing right? It is public info and if you want to spend the next 3 months putting it in spread sheets have at it.

Some of you guys are unbelievable. Obviously there is a demand for the information and some people do not expect something for nothing.

There are lot's of guys on here who must be on welfare. Nobody must work for a living at all! All Carter's are doing is providing a service at a cost, kinda like most of us at our jobs!!! If you don't want their help, then don't subscribe. It's really that simple. But most of ya'll are freeloaders i guess. And when ya get something for nothing you get what you pay for! If you want to do it yourself you have my admiration and support. And if you want help then call somebody who lives for the chance to hunt and is trying to put bacon on the table by WORKING as a guide, outfiiter or consultant. It's called Capitalism and it was born in the greatest, most free country on this wonderful planet. Or you can try Cuba?

Try the Colorado Outdoors subscription. They have a issue every year on bonus point odds and a issue on harvest and population statistics for all species. Its a great resource for hunters.

You get more for the $100.00 than just access to the new odds info...

What is that about $8.50 a month..... maybe they have a 'Lay-A-Way' plan for '09 some of ya could get in on....ha

There is no free lunch! Didn't your daddy ever teach you that?

I did enjoy it while it lasted, but don't begrudge someone working hard to "build a better mousetrap" and selling it for a profit.

Im not bitching , just not going to do it. Ill find the info somewhere else, and NO Im not on welfare, just dont make $100k + a year like some of you guys who probably pay someone to find your deer for you.

People will always complain when they are told that they can't have a free lunch anymore. I can't blame HuntOdds for selling out, but that doesn't mean I have to like paying for something I used to get for free. I wonder when Brian in going to start charging for access to MM? He could still sell advertising and charge for access on top of the ad revenue. This is America so he ought to look into it right? How much would you be willing to pay?

Dax

Not going to pay for it either. Really nothing in that website you can't find for yourself. Kind of enjoy the "hunt" anyway. Back to looking for a new honey hole by searching the data that maybe someone else missed.

Free huntodds.com you will be missed - good luck to you with Carters, I guess only time will tell if your return is what you envisioned.

For me it's not as much the $100, but hunters helping hunters at no cost to the hunter just makes the research a little more fun. I'm sure if MM started to charge the forum community most would jump to another free site. As it stands I hope MM makes a killing as the highest hunting ?hit count? on the web, and as serious hunters continue to support this site with quality (free) content MM will continue to grow and make money for its investors.

Well this may not have a lot to do with anything that is going on here, and then again, it may be the most important piece of literature, I have ever had the priveledge of writing anyone anywhere. You guys decide~!
I want to take this opportunity to thank anyone, who took more than 3 seconds to read any of my posts, or took the time to honestly write me back, and not just blow me off!!! SOmething for nothing. Yeah, I guess I got a small education for nothing, but do appreciate the effort that you guys put into my response when you took it upon yourselves to write me and not just crap all over me, like somebody or some people might do.
First and foremost we are hunters, and as such enjoy the rare pleasures of being able to handle mortally dangerous weapons of minimal or massive destruction, depending on whether you speak to a Brady campaigner, or an NRA rights activist!!! And I don't really care if you are primarily a bowhunter... Secondly, we are participating in a sport that likes to charge us for every little thing that people seem to think is innovative or fun, or challenging, so there are a lot of people with their hand out anyway, it is just refreshing to find people that will help you, without recourse or a "get and give me $$" attitude.
I could go on, and maybe I should just start a post on it, but I did want to thank you guys, that have helped me with inlines and the rest of my questions.

I renewed my Huntin Fool membership today. Just look at it like a sale. By the magazine and get the huntodds for free. Those guys put in a lot of work and time and I see no problem with then joining Huntin Fool. I look forward to the new features they put together.

Some of you sound like you can find all the information, draw odds, and point information by yourself so you should not care if they joined the Carters. Have fun.

When MM came out a couple of years ago with their little Colorado information that you could buy for $20 or $30 ( I forgot the price ) I did not hear people complaining. I bet most people could look up that information by themselves but is was convenient and nice to have in click of a mouse. I am sure it took time and work to put all that stuff together and he charged a fee for his work. Good for him.

$100 is not that much for the information you get.

Thats the great thing about the country we live in; you are
welcome to choose the services you want to pay for. There is nothing wrong with the "selling out" to Carter's as some would say. I am sure they spent a lot of money developing, researching and building their site.

A previous post said "they are selling information thats available for free". That right, they sound like good business people.

Maybe instead of pissing and moaning about ones hardships, one could save a little money and build their own site. And, if you would like, supply your services for free to benefit all your fellow sportsman.....

i used utahhuntinfo.com last year. worked well for what i needed. i'm sure it takes time to get all the new data in there. i probably won't even look for it until late Jan.

100k a year? Boy, I wish! It is out there if I go get it. Problem is I have not figured it out. Oh well, to make my hunting experience better, for me, I choose to pay Carter's. Been a lot of help and keeps me up to date. The magazines are great and now I have HuntOdds on my side. Kirt has always treated me well and I wish him the best of luck in his new business.

I think all of us want a better quality of life. The HuntOdds guys are no different. We can join Carter's service, or pass on it. Either way I have no gripe with anyone and their choice. I think to rip on the HuntOdds guys is inappropriate though considering they just want to make some money like the rest of us.

I liked HuntOdds the best, but I am sure the other sites are great also. Just pick your medicine and good luck!

you can do your own home work and spend penny's, most of those draw odds are free anyways!

So now because some of us make over 100K a year that means we hire a guide because we can't do it ourselves. It all of a sudden makes us less of a hunter than you because we do okay financially. It's people like you that make comments like that that keeps my employee payroll cheap. You don't have to pay stupid as much.

I make over 300K a year and have never had a guide in my life. I am also taking a week off of work to take three 14 year olds that have never hunted before in their life just to give them the experience. I make about $1500 a day at 5 days off with no paid vacation all of a sudden makes that cow elk hunt for those boys (I do not have a tag)out to about $7500. Maybe instead of taking those boys out I should cancel the hunt, take that money and pay some guide to hold my hand to a big buck to shoot on a Saturday morning.

Sorry for ranting, I just can't stand comments like that.

RACK,

I do look at the draw odds, but I like how HuntOdds stacks it all up for you. Just my way of doing it. I guess I look at it like it is just another tool to help me. I rarely ever put in for any unit someone tries to sway me to. I pick my units based on my own research. There are more than one way to skin a cat! Sorry bobcat.;-)

true...
Oh BOBCATBESS's hide must be "CASEHARDED" and pleanty thick by now...(with all those females he raising).

I wanted to take a moment and reply to one of the posts regarding us joining the Huntin Fool team. First off, thanks to all of you who supported HuntOdds.com and used it!

Next, for those of you who are unaware, Hunt Odds started off as a hobby for us. We are a couple of hunting fanatics that enjoyed crunching numbers, analyzing data and posted it to help others like us. We had no clue the website would be so popular and grow like it did. We quickly recognized our little hobby and website as a business opportunity. After seeing the traffic and response, to not see this would have been stupid. We grew our data (which is/was alot of work) and our services. Recently we were presented an opportunity to join the Huntin Fool team and expand our services further. We are very excited to be moving forward with our original idea and joining the Huntin Fool team. The services will only be bigger and better now with the additional resources Huntin Fool can provide.

Also, for those members signed up through 2008, they actually will be receiving a free year of the Huntin Fool. Keep in mind, Utah data will actually still be free. For those of you focused on Utah, you will have access to those odds and the detailed odds people used to have to pay for on Hunt Odds.com. These will include min. points queries, year by year breakdowns, etc. That stuff is out there right now on the Huntin' Fool website, go try it out. 2007 data will be out in just weeks.

OK- I've rambled on long enough... Good luck in all your upcoming draws and hope to see a few in the mountains someday!

Great job on HuntOdds Kirt. Good luck in your new business! I validated my account today and was excited to see how you have expanded your data. Pretty cool what you have done and now you have been hired for this work. I enjoyed setting up my "Personal Hunting Database!"

The addition of HuntOdds made the subscription that much more valuable! See me in the woods? How about a Colorado deer hunt next year?!?;-)

Congrats guys!

Congrats on joining the Huntin Fool team. I'm sure you guys will be an asset. I'm going to validate my account right now.

Hey,
Sounds like I just got another service for the $100 i pay the Carters.
I am from Mississippi and since I started using the Huntin fool I have drawn:
1) Nevada mule deer tag
2) Montana bighorn tag
No way I would know where to apply without Huntin fool
$$ well spent.
