Well we had some success in 12a w this season. Not the monsters running through my dreams, but overall I am very happy with the way it turned out. By the time I had checked in Thursday night, 18 deer had measured out over 30" wide. I saw pictures of a 42" deer taken opening morning. I originally heard he scored in the 280 range, of course last reports says he was down in the 230's. I personally witnessed a 12 or 13 year old girl check in a 32" wide deer...amazing. Then back at home I ran into a young girl who had hunted up there and had horns that looked more like a red stag with a crown at the top. Oh well, This was my first deer. He ended up being 24" wide and about that high. best part was spending the week with my old man and watching him get a good deer our last day up there

I'm having a hard time with the pictures, I can email them to someone if you'd like to see them.

Thanks

If ya'll will notice three tags on three deer, NOT taken with one shot!!!

Thanks for posting those, I have some field pics of my deer I like a little better, I'll try to post those a little later. Really the story for mine isn't very interesting. I couldn't have been happier to have had this tag, especially after having a 12a e tag last year and coming up short. I was really concerned at the start because of the weather. All reports said the rut was slow and the deer were really spread out, I didn't know what to expect. Opening morning started off slow but after relocating mid morning things really picked up. No sooner did my dad put the glass on the ridges did deer start showing up. Mostly does with a few small bucks. Wouldn't you know it a good buck walked 30 yards in front of him with his gun at his side. He wasn't able to get a shot in time. Now knowing where the bucks were at, we spent the rest of the morning and early afternoon moving camp to a better location. That afternoon we decided to go back and try to find the buck my dad had seen earlier. About a half hour after getting out of the truck and walking two ridges over we heard two gun shots. Two minutes later, four does and a spike ran out 350 yards away from us...followed by a nice buck. I found a rest on a old tree and let fly...a clean miss. My dad soon followed with another shot...I could see he missed low. I pulled my rifle in a little tighter aimed just in front of him and BAM! Solid hit through the lungs. My dad's hunt was a little more exciting I'll try to get on later to share.

Great job SC.
A few big bucks went down, but I saw lots of people going home empty, or with small forkies.
So that's your dad and you, who was the other guy with the big black cowboy hat ? We spent some time talking to him, real nice guy.

southerncomfort,

Which tag would you rather have again,12AE or 12AW???

Here are a few more pics of my buck. Martin, we actually had the late hunt. I don't know which unit I'll put in for in the future. I saw a ton of bucks on both hunts. It seemed like this year on the west side most of the bucks we saw were at least 4x4's, whereas last year on the east side most of the bucks were smaller. Could just be luck or the year. Who knows.
