I saw this bull a week ago and was very impressed. I'm curious as to what you all think he might score?

Ok, question...You guys have way more experience than I at judging Bulls, how do you look and know a Bull will go 300 or better...I've always been 'see bull, shoot bull', but with the FLLE Archery tag, Id like to shoot a nicer Bull than I have before...

Is it the fronts? I've also heard thirds and fifths make a big difference? Like the Bull above to me is a no brainer...However all I can tell you is, I'd say yes he's over 300...

George, whilst I've been known to add an inch or two or maybe a measurement where I shouldn't ;-) I, generally speaking, like to work off of the base method.

Most mature trophy bulls will have a frame somewhere between 190-200". A smaller framed bull closer to 190 a bigger 200. From there tho you only have to guess the average tine length on the 6x6 typical frame and add it to the base.

The bull above, I would guess has a 195" frame broken down like this:

Beams: 50"x2
Mass: 50"
Width: 45"

Then the average tine looks to be about 13" to me, so that lands him at 325"-330"

First thing that catches your eye would obviously be fronts...if they turn up within a couple inches of his nose he's ok on the front end. Next, is beams must be half way down his back while his head is at a normal position forward. Width and mass defiantly matter but a bull with length will add up. Every point is equally important so add up the inches in your head if you have the study time. After a while it becomes 2nd nature to look at any bull and guess within 5-10 inches of what he'll score. Good luck!

Ah ok, thanks...Didn't even think to look at the examples you guys gave...So if his length puts him at his shoulders or better, he's good there, then you look at the rest?

Let me guess, you drive a 1 ton with oak trees for smoke stacks, 12" lift kit and 40" tires to pull a single place lawn mower trailer?

GeorgeE, I'm fairly new to the bull judging game as well. Many of these guys have been helping me with their experience and tips, but if you'd like a more detailed break down of the 200 base system, there's an article on elk101's website that helps a lot. (I apologize if I'm not supposed to send links, it's just a really helpful article for starting out) http://www.elk101.com/featured-articles/features/field-judging-elk/
