With 6 points the only chance for bonus point rifle tag would be Filmore Oakcreek or Diamond Mountain.

Both are decent units. Personally I'd go for the Oakcreek tag. I think you'd have a much better shot for big buck and wouldn't have to deal with private property like'd you'd have to on Diamond Mountain.

Pretty slim pickens in Utah-even with 6 points! Good luck!

LAST EDITED ON Dec-09-07 AT 12:40PM (MST)[p]I've got 9 for deer as a NR. Whats the best a guy could do with that in your opinions? Any weapon.

If your doing a DIY hunt, Oak Creek might not be your best bet unless you have a lot of time to scout. It is a tough unit to hunt with a relatively low deer population. If it were me, I'd just hang in there for a few more years until you can draw a good tag. 6 points is a lot of points to burn!

Thanks Not Sure What I Do.I Guess It Like Every State,It Was 6 years In Nevada My Home State To Draw Deer. Thanks Again Good Hunting Gordon

i dont know about non res but as a resident 6 points would give you a decent chance at the books of the vernon but probably still wouldnt draw it

Just Living The Dream

A good friend and his buddy both drew out for the Book Cliffs with 7pts.....both got great bucks!

I drew the Book Cliffs rifle tag three years ago with 6 points. Tons of deer, but you have to hunt hard if you want a good buck. Fun hunt.

I think 6 pts puts you in the running for the Books.
Thats the direction I would point you.

By the way,
I live in UT.
There are a lot of UTARDS that live here.
I have also seen quite a few WYOMORONS, NEVADUHNS, COLORADORKS, ID-IOTS and AIRHEADZONANS in my travels.

I would seriously look at the Bookcliffs-rifle
It has a up&coming gene pool,as well as,more available permits.
It is probably Utah's best opportunity for a decent buck
w/6 bonus points.

I would agree with the Book Cliffs hunt it is an easy area to navigate if you dont have a lot of scouting time. I drew last year with 4 points. look at the deer they are shooting this year off that unit.

I think everybody should put in for the Book Cliffs. Change from the other units you have been putting in for, and change to the Books. Please!!!

I agree with koda, everyone stay out of the Henry's, put in for the books and let me have MY turn!!

As far as oakcreek goes....good luck on that with 6 points after the hawgs they took off there this year!!

Anytime you see a mossback trucks hanging out in a unit, you damn sure know there's a pretty good reason.

Just curious - how is it possible to have
an "up & coming" gene pool in the Books or
anywhere where folks are looking for and
harvesting the best bucks they can find?

Seems like you would have and up & coming
situation ONLY after a few year of 2 or 3-pt
harvest ONLY. e.g. - after you have been
removing the bad genetics, not constantly
harvesting the good. [just thinking back to
all the genetics threads that have been
discussed here in the past.]

BTW - I'm a NR sitting on 5 PP's

As a nonresident 6 points isn't even going to get you close to drawing a bonus point tag on the BooK Cliffs-more like 10 points...... Sure you may get lucky and draw a random tag, but your odds of that are in the single digits...

Like I said before, pretty sad that 6 points wont get you far in Utah. Too bad you can't trade them in for 1 Colorado point:)

I would suggest book cliffs or elk ridge. A lot of people put down the books, but I spend a lot of time there and just think people need to get out of truck more.

Book Cliff's is a "fun hunt", expect to see more bucks than you've probably ever seen anywhere, but it's like trying to find a trout in a tank full of goldfish, finding a "big" buck.

You'll need more than six points though, it's been taking around 9 to draw...unless you get lucky.

Don't over look Vernon.
