I have a manti archery tag. So far the hunting has been tough. I've hunted 5 days so far. The weather on Tuesday and this Friday night/Saturday morning has made things more difficult. I have found some good shooter bulls but they are spread way out and we just haven't been in the right place at the right time yet, There seems to be water everywhere so the elk seem way spread out.

I know its way early in the hunt but I'm not hearing the elk talking hardly at all. I'm hoping that this starts picking up by next weekend.

I have a muzzy tag on the Manti. I wasn't down this weekend but I heard a young bull bugle a 8-10 times 2 weeks ago. The last week of the hunt is the best.

LE UT- I shot this bull in Monday 08/18. 28 yard shot he went about 50 yards.

Yeah rattler I've heard some little bulls bugling. Just small bulls that are already hanging with cows and they are just short little bugles.

Are any of you hearing the Elk talk this year, 2014?
Date?
Bull, cow?
Confidence level that it's an elk and not a hunter?
If so, at what elevation?
Temperature?
Time of day?
Thanks for your help.

August 20-23
North central Utah
No elk talk between 7500-8500 ft
Temp 70-40' rain and clear
All times of the day

I have a LE Wasatch Archery tag. We have covered lots of miles in the 5 days I have spent hunting. No talking that I have heard yet. The bulls still seem to be in summer mode. I saw several bulls yesterday still hanging together.

I didn't go down this past weekend to the mani unit but I had the previous 3 weekends. I mentioned the small bull earlier but I have heard the cows every weekend I was down there.
Between 5-8:30 pm
9,000'-10,000'
I watched a couple different herds moving to feeding areas talking the whole time.
Temps 60-75???

Here is my dutton bull not the biggest but I'm happy with him.

Awesome bulls. Last year I had an LE archery tag and the bulls didn't really start talking where I was until the 5th of sept.
