Wasatch Archery

Here is my Wasatch Archery bull I was able to take Tuesday the 9th. I have hunted this tag with my brother in 2012 and good friend in 2013 and all of us were able to harvest mature bulls. I can honestly say I under estimated how hard and stressful this hunt is with the tag in your pocket. From heavy rain ruining my plans to sit water early, to snow- thinking it would start the rut early, and bulls not getting fired up like I would have liked. My good friend called it in to 14 yds without the bull ever making a sound! I made a good shot and planned to let him sit for an hour or so...but it started raining 20 min into my wait and forced us to go in. With an arrow nocked we walked up on him 75 yds from the first shot and he was not able to get up. I placed one more arrow to end his suffering. I feel very fortunate and humbled to take this bull. I could not have been happier with the experience and bull!

Having my wife and 2 daughter's at camp when I got back, made it all that much better!!

Sounds like you endured and made all of the right decisions in the face of some circumstances that might force others to compromise or quit. Good work. Hell of a bull too.

LAST EDITED ON Sep-16-14 AT 11:49AM (MST)[p]Hey any mature bull with a bow is a great bull. Glad you were able to connect. I too had a Wasatch LE Archery tag and struggled as well. The weather was tough, the elk didn't cooperated until the last three-four days, but still, there is no better way to spend your September than chasing bulls. Here's the bull I took on the last day, after 14 days hunting. I sat tree stands, spotted, stalked, chased, you name it. I ended up taking this bull at 30 yards. I had him at 50 the day before, but wasn't real fond of the shot. Fun hunt, but boy not easy. That's what makes it fun though...right? Awesome that you got to share it with your family. Mine was at home, working, school.

and this is the bull I chased for a couple of days. He was taken on the second day of the rifle hunt by Chris Smith. Great bull, with a ton of character. We thought he was an 7X7, but as you can see he has an extra browtine and a cheater off his 4th, that you can't see.

Way to go guys. The joys and challenges of a LE tag make for a memory until the next time. Congrats.

Thanks guys!

Those are both very nice bulls! Congrats on getting it done.

Maybe one day the archery hunt will be pushed back and we archery hunters will get more rut action. It might just be me, but it does not seem the same to me chasing rutting bulls with a rifle and not a bow.

That's what I call a successful hunt buddy..!! Thanks for sharing your success with us. :) Love the bull and love the pic with your daughter.

I had the Wasatch archery le tag also and endured the same issues as both of you but didnt overcome them. Congrats on two really nice bulls!
