Well, my LE muzz hunt is over. I know, it doesn't start til next week, but I broke my collar bone last night while mountain biking. Took a spill and got to walk 3 miles in the dark. Good times!

Sorry to hear that gm!

Them Bucks & Bulls will still be there next year!

Get your Tag Turned in as quick as possible so somebody on short notice can make Quick Plans!

Hope you recover & get feeling better soon!

Depending on the hunt, I think I'd learn how to shoot with the other hand... :)

Which hunt is it anyway..?? Could someone else go along with you to reload the muzzy for ya..?? If you drew it with very few points, I wouldn't be turning it back in unless it was absolutely impossible to shoot with the broken collar bone...

Sorry to hear about your misfortune. I think in Mountain Biking, a broken collar bone is just a rite of passage. So congratulations may also be in order...

Let us know what you decide to do. Maybe you can get some extra info on your hunt from others here since you're a little banged up...

I know a friend of mine had a similar situation and the UDWR wrote him a signed notarized affidavit that allowed him to keep his tag and use it the following year. So at least get the DR. Note for it and see. You may not even have to put in next year.

Great suggestion on the doctor's note and talking w/ the UDWR. If this is Utah, if you have a kid I heard there is now also an option that you can get your kids name on the tag as well under the youth mentor program (although I have not actually seen the regs for this). Otherwise, if the tag gets turned in some other lucky hunter might get a call...

In utah, the medical thing is called a "variance." Call and ask about that especially if you drew it with less than max points otherwise you might be waiting awhile. You do have to have a note or forms filled out by your dr. so you'll need to jump on it quickly.

My dad got a medical variance when he had prostate cancer in 2011 and they actually have you use the same tag for the next season's hunt but they issue you a letter saying that your expired tag is valid for the following season. At least that's what they did for my dad...

I think it is for the wasatch, if I remember correctly from his other thread. Like they said above, see if the DWR will let you keep it for next year or learn how to shoot with other hand and have someone help you load gun...
Don't give up easily...
That is a crappy deal though this close to season.
Look on the bright side if you do go this year you won't have to pack a single pound of elk out, your family/friends get to do it all... lol

There are many things that would be nice to wish for or say but then I would be just like him.

Well I did turn the tag in. The break was pretty bad and required surgery, so there was no chance of shooting. It was the Wasatch muzz hunt. I think I should draw again next year. Definitely a bummer but I'm thankful it wasn't worse. I wrecked 3 miles from the parking lot and was fortunate that friends helped get my bike out while I walked out. Also had lots of good people stop to help, including a search and rescue guy, a nurse and an ER doc.
