LAST EDITED ON Sep-25-14 AT 08:28AM (MST)[p]Finally had my first chance to draw on an elk after 3 years of not even coming close. We hit the bugling just right as they'd been bugling the evening and night before and they were still going at it in the morning when I took this 6x7. Not the biggest I've shot but with a bow, it's a trophy to me!

Nice job coelkman! What was the kill date, just curious about the great bulging time period? Great bull and pics!

We arrived on Monday afternoon the 15th and they were bugling that evening, Tues am, some on Tues PM and minimal bugling after that. FYI we were in the Southern part of CO. We were told the elk were bugling a few days before we arrived when there was a drop in temps, then when the temps jumped up, the elk shut up. Our impression was that the rut was not in full swing yet. Elk would answer our bugles but none wanted to check us out. I had one start to come in with cow calls then I tried a very small locator bugle and he turned and went away. (this was after I'd shot my bull).

Way to go Doug!!! You deserve that bull. You guys are great guys. I am glad we got to know each other. Any archery bull is a trophy. Hope to see you see you guys again soon. Good luck on all your hunts. I will have some great info for you guys on your next year hunt when you draw.
