I received this picture in an e-mail and even the sender and others who sent it to him don't know who the hunter or where it came from.
Anyone have any ideas...look at the face... I think I know who it "might be".

LAST EDITED ON Jan-01-08 AT 11:28AM (MST)[p]Looks like 'ol Kirt Darner to me. That is a pig of a Buck aswell, got to be 210 on the frame, and 220 with the extras. WOW.

It is Kirt Darner..old mexico..and I think it's main frame was more than 210..I talked to him about some CO units a couple years ago and he sent me a pic of that buck..i thought he said it had a 216 mainframe..or something like that..the mass, main beams, and G4's are amazing on that buck!

Given his past makes ya wonder if what happens in Mexico stays in Mexico. You know the stories of pitlamping and such that some outfitters practice down there.

When I first got this picture and looked at it close, I agree it sure did look like an aged Kirt Darner.

Looks like he can still find 'em. My congrats to ya, kirt.

LAST EDITED ON Jan-01-08 AT 10:25PM (MST)[p]This is just my opinion, but if Kirt did commit all of the wrong doings he has been charged with, Why are we praising him for killing another buck ? Granted that buck is incredible and I would love the opportunity to harvest one like him, but I can't give someone props for placing a bad mark on the sport and industry I give my heart and soul to every minute of every day. He and his wife are scheduled to be in court this month (Jan. 2008) for the whole New Mexico elk issue - Once a poacher always a poacher ? I believe everyone deserves a second chance, but he's been doing it his whole life.

Rich Larocco has a very interesting history with Kirt Darner - It's a good read for those who are interested.

Yes, but he didn't poach ALL of his deer...and taking those legally was a feat. And his poaching charges have been murky at best.

What better way to kick off tyhe first day of the new year than with a Kirt Darner thread?

You have no idea how many times I have been invited to large ranches in Mexico to hunt peoples properties. They invite me telling me how easy it is to spotlight a monster buck. Even the gringos do it they say. No Thanks. I know it's not everybody, I just hate hearing about those kinds of things.

After reading that article he seems like a pretty shady guy. I wouldn't trust that any of his trophies were legally taken by him unless I could get proof.

That is Darner, and that buck is in the Top 10 all time SCI in the Desert Mule deer typical category. You can look it up on the SCI website.

your right, he bought bucks that were killed in the 50's and made up big storys.

xitnet - you are welcome.

It's kind of a shame that he let his ego get the better part of him - life's hard enough - I'm sure he has a vast amount of knowledge to share with all of us Mule Deer nuts, but how can any of us respect him when he can't even respect his own integrity.
