On the way into where he shot this bull we were seeing alot of elk tracks and couple of good rubs on trees right next to the two track dirt road. It had rained and the large mud puddles had been reduced to small mud wallows for the elk we dubbed "PIG PEN" I had been in this spot before on previous wasatch elk hunts and knew roughly were we needed to be.
Cameron his dad Mark and I got out of the truck and started making a game plan. Cameron let out two cow calls just messing around. Not long after that Mark looked at Cameron and I and said did you hear that? All of us froze up and started listening and we all could hear a bull bugle down the draw quite aways out almost so faint that you couldnt hear it. We just listened for about 5 min. Then right up the draw from where we just drove in from we heard what Mark had orignaly heard a bull racking his horns on a tree after that we were scrabbling to get all of our gear on and the shooting sticks off the quad. Once we had gathered up everthing it was a mad dash on foot to try to get this bull in. I walked to a spot i thought i could see where the bull was smashing the tree and nothing. Cameron and mark were right next to me we were about ten steps from sky linning on the ridge crouched down just listening waiting to see if he was still making noise. Just as i put the binos down and stood up and looked at cameron and Mark. Cameron says there he is!! I knew as soon as i seen the bull he was a shooter! I ranged the bull he was 200 yards away and closing in quick. The bull was heading for a small patch of cedars and had just went in them. When Cameron hit the ground because he has a bi pod on his gun a 300 Rum. Because of rolling hill we were on he could not see the bull. I already had my shooting sticks ready to rock and roll. As soon as the bull walked out of the trees he finaly spotted us on the sky line Mark and i told cam get up and shoot him after what seemed like a life time for Mark and I. Cameron finaly had his cross hairs on the bull right as he started to trott off. I hurried and let out some kind of a cow call. He stopped broad side and Cameron hammered him right where the neck meets the shoulder the bull took off like a bullet and was heading for a deep draw. At this time i was freaking out i told cam put another in him! Cameron put one in the kill zone on the run the bull went down. I thought for sure he's done. As soon as we moved the sticks and started heading towards "PIG PEN" he stood up and started runnning again cameron put one more in him in the kill zone and finaly one more in the front shoulder. And he was down!!! Before he made it to the deep canyon :) Then the fun started then ended at 4am the next morning.
We scored him out 350 gross "nets for fishing"
