Now Colorado Deer question

I have been accumulating points for many years in many states(I'm old)(41)and I am about due for some good hunts. 13 deer points and I want to get a tag this year. What do you guys think. I know the hunting fool will be out soon to help. It seems to me I don't need all these points for a good deer hunt in Colorado but since I have them.... Should I look for the 4th season or is a 3rd season in say 66 or 54 good enough?

I haven't heard of any real bragger bucks coming off the 4th season in the basin or anywhere else for that matter. It is an over rated hunt IMO unless you have a ton of snow.If your just after a 180 type buck, 4th would be ok. If you want a gagger buck, I'd look at an Early HC hunt with that many points.I'd love to have your points with some point banking privledges....

I'd wait and see how bad the already heavy snow winter gets to see if there is winter kill. This is the most snow I have seen on the winter range in years and its still coming.

I saw on the news that there is some supplemental feeding for the deer going on in the Ohio creek area of the Gunnison Basin and its only the 2nd week of February. In the area where I live, the sagebrush is already completely covered by snow and the deer are somewhat "yarded up" into south facing steep brushy hillside areas where they can browse instead of dig through the snow. Areas that normally hold deer throughout the winter have zero deer at this point as the deer have moved off looking for better forage.

I second what Buckspy says. You might look into Pinon Canyon, Fort Carson, or a Ranching For Wildlife if you're a resident.

Point banking was a one time thing done a couple years ago.
You could apply for a hunt that took 5 points to draw and using your 13 you would be left with 7 points (5+1 extra) instead of zeroing your points after you drew a tag.
Look at some stats for the top areas. Some units only have a 3rd rifle hunt as their last one but could be good.
