Finally got around to staining some sheds I found on my hunt this year. I tried using the mud technique, but I guess the mud around me sucks for staining antlers. I ended up staining them in an unconventional way. I own a decorative concrete company, so I grabbed some concrete stain and started experimenting. Two coats later and a coat of tung oil, and below is the finished product. I thought they turned out great!
Just in case anyone wants to try this, I used Walnut Ecostain by Surecrete and diluted it one part stain to one part water, then just ragged it on with an old sock. I think it works well because its water based, so if you want to lighten anything, you can just wet a rag and rub it over those spots (that's what I did to highlight areas).
Taped the sheds out at 352" just in case anyone cares (35" spread credit). The smaller shed in the pic where they're covered in mud scores 149"....can't really tell in the pic, but the first 3 points average over 19".
