I have a good buddy that has been hunting a huge track of private about 30 miles west of Trinidad for a few years. He usually hunts with a small group and when a cancellation came up I got the invite. Usually when we have a trip coming up we have months to get excited about it and plan. I had 15 days which was fine. I had to fly for certain reasons so packing and planning took a bit of care.

The rifle I knew I was going to take was 'Uncle Bill". A rifle my uncle bought new off the rack in 1963. A Belgian made Browning Safari Grade in .375 H&H. This gun shoot very well with 260 grain handloads.

This was during second season. Because of my job I usually can't hunt until late October/early November but the harvest was early this year.

With only 3 full hunting days I was going to be as selective as possible but realistic at the same time. Every hunt we went on we saw bulls (except for one evening hunt). In camp I soon became 'the trophy hunter' as some of the guys were pretty shocked when I passed on small 6 points. I was pretty much thinking this will be a once in a lifetime hunt at a big bull.

Long story short I waited until the morning of the last day to take this bull. He's a true 7x8 has short beams and points. Probably a younger bull. I'm still happy with the 300 yard shot I made on him and to have a chance at a bruiser.

Hoping someday to hunt Nevada (I have 14 points) to get my high scoring wall hanger.

Nothing wrong with him, Good pickup on that spot, Hope you get a couple of more chances at the place with other canceled hunts.

That thing is a definite BEAST!! Love the character of the rack. He is a great trophy - who cares what he scores! With only 3 days to hunt that is awesome!

Good on ya!!
