Wyoming unit 7 Elk

Well last week I found out that I finally drew a tag in Wyoming Unit 7 for elk. I plan on having plently of time to hunt during the archery season, and plan on quite a few scouting trips. Never been to this area before. So I got a lot of work to do before the hunt. After doing some research I have found that almost everyone says to try to get on some private land. So I thought I would ask if anyone on here has drawen this tag and could help me out with some contact info on some private land. Or even someone that will have a small fee to cross their property to get to public land to hunt on. Not looking to make someone rich off the access. Or if someone has good areas to check out. By all means I am not looking for your hunting hole, just some areas that have deep forest away from the rest of the normal high activity hunting areas. I am not your average hunter, will not hunt from a truck or atv. Backpacking in is my thing! Also I drew this by myself and if their is anyone that drew this tag and would like to pair up for some scouting trip pm me. Thanks Guys!

Wyoming has resources.

Get on the phone and make some calls to the F&G Dept, soon.

We had a great hunt in #7 a couple of years ago because we got access to private.

On that hunt we took one day and rode the horses in on public. 4-5 miles in, hunted another 3-4 miles in and saw boots tracks in several places. We saw little bulls too.

Just didn't seem like the effort was worth it when we saw big bulls daily on private, or land locked public. Never went back!

Thanks for the info. I have never hunted out of state and only done research on my own in the field. So I my sound dumb here but can the F & G give you info on private land owners (like contact info) or do you just get out their and try to run into them in the area. Like I said my sound dumb on here just don't know where to begin on getting a hold of the land owners. And what is a normal fair price to access these private areas?

If you call the local office they will email you a landowner list with landowner contact information and fee prices if they want something for access.
Good luck!

What "godeep" said.

And what I was referring to.

But dates, ranches dry up quick.

I waited a week too long trying to decide. I wanted to hunt archery the week leading up to the dark of the moon, and the week following.

By the time I recontacted the landowner, half that time was filled. We started our hunt the day of no moon. Rut activity slowed to almost nothing about 4 days later, until we got weather.
