Has anyone hunted Nevada 072 DIY for elk archery/muzzy? Did you succeed? What would you differently?

I hunted it mid season in 2011, but I hunted in 74, didn't see a bunch, but from what the local cowboys and previous hunters told me it was an unusual year and there are normally quite a few elk in that area. I saw a few nice ones before season, then couldn't find any for a 5 days! ended up getting an older bull, a 6 point but pretty short horned. I would go back and try again in a minute! But they wont let me try for 10 years! I hunted SW of Jackpot NV.

Just a follow up question as I've posted already that my brother drew the Muzzy Elk in 072-074....so excited . Not going to pay the bucks for guided into the Jawbridge but maybe hunt edges. Any words of wisdom which edge N,E, S or W.

I would hunt the edges on NW section, Sun Creek to Pole Creek. That's just me though.

Thank you, we like to set up an established camp and hunt 5-8 mile radius around that. Would that NW corner provide a good set up in that regard? I haven't purchased my 7.5 min maps yet seeking to learn more before doing that.Any guess as to the hunting pressure we can expect 9-17 / 9-30? Takes so much of the enjoyment out of the trip listening to quads buzzing by 2 hours before sunrise really appreciate the help. Thx Jim.

I hunted the Muzzy in 2013 DIY and took a Bull. It was an awesome experience.

Do you have a tag?

The country NE of the wilderness holds bulls in archery and muzzy seasons.

Last year I glassed the NE corner of the wilderness a couple of days and saw bulls, but nothing I would shoot.

Thx Cali, Sure sounds like there are great pocket located thought the unit with the Jawbridge being the hub ,which is what I was hoping for. Trying to work out some details to head up 3rd week of this month to get a feel for the terrain etc. Cant express my gratitude for the MM team and all the help. If someone needs help in NM I'll do my best. I've been vacationing for a while and just got home last night so I'll be reaching out to guys that have PM me. Thx Jim

Cali is correct on the NE, I said NW above but that's an error on my part. The range from creek to creek above is the NE section.

Sorry

I'll be scouting starting the 17th and the NE corner will be on the agenda. I love being retired.....never ever have I been able to spend time like this in the woods. My biggest challenge now is to get my brother to hold off on lesser Bulls at a chance on a big one. He has hunted hard and had many close encounters with Gila Monsters but best to date is a rag 5x5. Wish me luck in that endeavor.
