I'M WILLING TO HAND MY TAG BACK,RIGHT NOW!!!

THIS IS MY NEW GUN,YOU MAY NOT LIKE IT,YOU'LL LIKE IT A HELL OF A LOT LESS WHEN IT HITS ITS DESTINATION!!!

They'll sell out.A bunch of folks will eat tag soup. Also those bucks that are killed will be a higher percentage of the total bucks and the buck to doe ratio will become skewed even futher.

just my thoughts.

Then we could just kill them off and get the long, slow decline out of the way this year.

HEY Tony???

ARE YOU SUGGESTING WE'D GET RID OF THE DEER "SHED" PROBLEMS???

I have to agree with Tony...

I think that the DWR need to rethink the number of permits for the northern unit this year.

I for one will not hunt deer this year, and probably not untill I see improvement in the herd.

I dont know about the rest of the Northern unit, but the Northern Wasatch frount/ Ogden valley (Eden, Liberty),and the North Ogden bench are just about out of deer... Jan the deer were struggling, saw maybe 50 on my daily hikes, Come Feb and I have seen about 26 head( and they 8 were in my yard) until about the 10th and since then I have not cut a track along the high-line on the frount. there are 3 moose that so far have made it and the DWR have not hauled off yet...

The Good news is that the Mt. Goats are doing fine on Ben Lomond and Willard peaks, but they are staying in the cliffs and not down in the oakbrush.

It'd be kind of crazy if they INCREASED the number of tags issued wouldn't it? Just another nail in the coffin I suppose. Sort of flies in the face of all of the feeding efforts that have taken place in Northern Utah.

If the DWR increases tag numbers in the North for 2008 it would be sad. Unless of course, those decisions were made prior to the winter, which is something you would never hear in any pointed discussion on this website. It would be nice if the DWR could decrease tag numbers after the draw, but I really don't see how that is possible. If anything, the DWR should not sell over the counter tags, if there are any to be sold.

On thing everyone who is taking the "im gonna sit this year out approach" should do is buy a DAMN tag. Then sit back and eat tag soup. Put your money where your mouth is. Just sitting back won't do chit.

ya know not every one with a tag, takes a deer, i haven't taken a deer in 4 years... just didn't find a buck i wanted to shoot.. still.. deer or not.. its great to go hunting

If that was dirrected at me, I have a lifetime License, and I have been eating tag soup for the last 7 years. Like you I have been chasing the same deer and his sons since 1988...

Only Pleasedear and Founder know where he is....and they better not tell.

Gotta throw this one in boy's .....

It's called hunting not killing. Don't confuse ethics with logic!

Sadly, not everyone will hold off until they find the buck they want. So shut'er down if the herd is stressed. Like that's going to happen in my lifetime.

We went 0 for 5 last year & had a great time! BUT ... also saw some sh*t that would make you puke!

I don't care if I ever kill another critter, but I sure want the chance.

Sadly enough Rus, you and I are in the minority with that oppinion. I have heard discussion about this winter being compared to that of 1992-93. If that's the case they need to shut the hunt right down. If ya'll remember that year, there was a devastating loss that took many years to recover. Money governs all nowadays. I like the post above that said we should all buy a tag and then stay home. I'm in. My daughter will have a Central tag and I will have a bow tag. We'll sit this one out.

It's always an adventure!!!

chawk - not directed at you. All I am sayin is if the DWR doesn't limit tag numbers in the North, Northeast, or Central, and still sells OTC tags, it would be nice if some of the tags went to those who were a little more picky.

Maybe the PETA folks will line up again to save a few deer. LOL!

Realistically, I doubt that there will be many OTC tags this year. On at least a somewhat more positive note - its getting warmer.

I definitely agree that tag numbers need to be cut, statewide. I am, and always will be, a Southern region hunter, but we have way too many hunters for the number of deer here as well. One way to help the Northern unit, and the other that doesn't automatically "draw out" is to not sell over the counter tags, archery or undersubscribed. Most hunters that live in the northern part of the state, which is the extreme majority of hunters in the state period, use the northern region as a last chance. Most of them, that is. If they wouldn't allow undersubscribed tags to be sold, this would do two things. It would increase the chance for people to draw a southern tag, and I also increase the number of tags given in the northern unit in the regular draw, however, I don't think the northern unit would "draw out". Overall, there are way too many tags statewide for the deer herd we have at this time. Just my opinion.

338- i like the idea of not having otc after the draw. it would definitely help in the northern area and the statewide archery. if the no. area only drew out half the tags this could help the buck numbers in just a year or two.right now people assume there will be leftover tags so they wait and get them for 10$ less.

I like the idea, too, however, they would also have to get rid of second choice apps at the same time. Put in for ONE hunt. If you draw, great. If not, try again next year with your preference point. It would increase the apps on the No. region in the first go, but would also lessen the apps on the other units. It would be a small decrease, but would help. The bottom line, however, is there are too many tags across the board in this state at this time....
