Well my dad got lucky and pulled a NR early tag with 6 points. Luck would have it he broke his foot not long ago and while rehabbing away, I'm sure our deep hiking options will be limited. I live the near the unit and have chased cows in the past and fish Strawberry constantly. I'm not looking for honey holes but just a little info to get us started when we begin scouting and looking around. I'm hoping he can hike and get around but if not, we will join the masses and hope to get lucky I'm sure. Any information would be much appreciated from anyone who has had the tag.

PMs are fine as well.

Thanks in advance!

The elk are hammered on the south/central part of the Wasatch..

I'd look on Avitaquin part or AF canyon around Cascade springs.

Last year we found four 340 or better bulls just south of Strawberry on the muzzy hunt. None of these were in areas you could have seen these elk from the road. You might get lucky driving around if he can't hike, but you have to get off the roads if you realistically want a chance at killing a decent bull.

Goofy knows the unit much better than I do, and he spends a ton more time up there than I do. But I did hunt it on the muzzy with my two brothers the last two years, and the area just south of Strawberry did just fine for us both years. We did not have any trouble finding elk, and especially last year found some really good bulls. Finding them wasn't really a problem. It was closing the gap and sealing the deal that was the hard part!
