My Dad has drawn this tag this is his first Elk tag at the age of 67. So I would like to find him a nice bull. I am trying to do a little research on some possible areas to look. We have hunted this unit for deer last year, One place we have never been is the south part of the Books, especially late in the year. I was contemplating doing a little scouting around on the south. I was wondering where all the bulls f migrate and winter. Has anyone ever done much hunting or scouting in the late season on the south end. Would love to get some insight as to where we might scout/access/hunt.

I have never hunted the Late but elk are plentiful down there. I have heard the late hunt is harder to find the big ones but there is lots of area to glass down there. I would imagine the south end but also the north end towards Ouray would be a good winter spot for the elk. Nothing is super high out there so I am not sure how far south they would need to go.

Congrats to your Dad, I drew that tag too. I haven't been there yet, planning on a scouting trip this summer. maybe we will run into you out there, good luck!
