LAST EDITED ON Jul-28-15 AT 02:24PM (MST)[p]I have a 13 year old son that drew the Youth Any Bull Elk Tag for Sept.12 - 20. I've read a lot of posts about this hunt but most of them are a few years old now. I've also noticed most of them recommend South Slope (or that general area).
I live in Utah County and there are closer units but from what I'm gathering, the Uintas seems to have the most elk and therefore might be our best bet to get him a shot. We don't have horses and not a lot of help, just a few of us.
If anyone would be willing to point us in the right direction on any of the open bull units, it would be greatly appreciated.

Soapstone basin up by kamas may not be a bad spot to start looking if you don't want to travel far

Thanks blg182005. I drove by there today on my way back from the Altamont area.
I seen the turnoff to Soapstone that said 2 miles. It looked like a lot of camping trailers coming down, I would assume there are quite a few places to park a trailer on that road?
The area around Rock Creek, Yellowstone Creek, Altamont up towards Ashley National Forest seemed very hard to access by truck and trailier, but again, I'm just exploring trying to get an idea of where to start.
Thanks again.
Anyone else have a suggestion to help out a 13 year old on his first Elk hunt?

Yellowstone creek and rock creek both are good choices, you can also try swift creek and hells canyon.

I have hunt the uintas were you are looking a lot. Theres lots of elk and plenty of nice Bulls. If u put in the effort and time to get off the road and just listen first thing in the morning the elk will tell u were they are at. Rock creek is a good place to start, but they are a long ways back. Look towards pigeon water and bear wallow. Watch out for the trible land but there are plenty of elk their. If u Pm me I can share some more. I will be backpacking in for the archery hunt.
