Huh, no noise with any meaning my fair weather friend. At least for a couple weeks, but I'm sure there are plenty of dudes out there educating them.

went out scouting this last weekend. While driving there seen a guy walking along the highway decked out in camo with face paint and a neck load of calls and a bugle too. :D so sure there is talking but it isn't elk doing the talking...
Oh this is was in CO where no seasons are open yet on public land.

Way to early for elk to be making noise. But I did see a lot of bulls this weekend sparring and rubbing velvet off. Give it 3_4 weeks

Ive been hearing some noise on the manti unit in utah. Probably nothing of importance as elk are vocal year round. But I have witnessed some satelites put out some small bugles. Not just heard, literally watched them through my spotting scope.

I was out in the Gila this past weekend and they were bugling really well got into a herd with a bull and several sat bulls and we just listened prob heard 40 bugles bwtn all the bull in about an hour of listening and trailing them

I was on a hike a week ago and startled one on the side of the trail. She make a hell of a lot of noise when she crashed off but that's probably not the kind of noise you were talking about.
I've heard nothing but a couple mews all summer and I've been hiking in good elk country 4 days per week for the past 3 months. I'm out either early or late and I'll bet the elk are too. It's been damn hot!

Some of the smaller bulls are hanging out with the cows on Fish lake. They are making noise in the elk woods. Not that you can hear them by the road.

I thought it was the middle of the rut with how many bugles I heard on the 16th of August. I backpacked back into the area on the 18th and heard a couple small bulls. Way off the road on the Manti unit.

Elk talk year round. Even bugles. Of course the rut increase this activity.

As far as the archers go, we have a season that begins really early and we have to use every and any tool at our disposal. But yes I certainly sympathize with the rifle hunters because the elk are "educated" by the archers. That shows in the 100% success rate on most limited entry early rifle hunts.

But to know and understand elk talk year round, you'd actually have to have "assassinated" some elk in your day....

That 110% Success Rate Must Hurt?

There is some Real/Natural Music Made most of the Year!

But BY GAWD every year a Month & a Half before Them Bulls start getting Serious We Got other JOKERS getting Serious sounding like 500" Bulls!

This Sshhitt Amazes me every Year!

I was exploring/scouting in the Gila a couple years ago on @8-23. Stopped my truck to study a map . Heard bugling and thought for sure it was some Texan ( no offense) out being stupid with their calls. To my surprise after a brief hike ...6x6 with 20 cows doing his thing..every year is different. Had the second Gila hunt last year 9-11/18 and pretty quite but guys we ran into that had first hunt had a lot of noise . These guys are imo unpredictable in when they get motivated to be vocal. I get the real rut won't start till the last week of Sept but many years they are piping up way before that.

I saw a small 5X5 polishing his antlers yesterday ,and he replied to my cow/calf call with a couple short whistles, but no bugles' yet on the Wasatch. Do have a really nice bull spotted for my buddy with an any Bull tag. Have been within 100 yards of him 4 times in 6 days. Have watched him bed, polish, feed, fight trees.but not a peep out of him. He didn't even give a second glance at a heard of 5 cows and calves and a spike that fed through his area on last Thursday. Hope to show you all a pics of him with a tag on his antler soon. Your know if we connect with him by his long (18") 6th point on his right side...

Bessy I think my post went over your head. Guess I should've said "skanky mamas". Now go read it again.

Any help on Wasatch would be appeciated! Hunting with a beginner, not looking for a giant by any means. Just want him to experience screaming bulls!

not much action yet Huntall. hoping the storm and cooler weather will start something. Bess, Iv never owned a Hoochy, I use a Quaker boy old hen call, and cow/calf call through a small tube. hardly ever bugle. When they are rutting (after my stick flipper hunt) I locate by chuckeling with my voice.. works for me

Those basin skanky mammas can be fun though when desperate. But not bad for a sure thing

I was in 36 over the weekend and they were bugling good where I was at. I could see about four distinct groupings and hear them talking to each other.

In Illinois it is against the law to carry or use a turkey call for the 2 weeks before the season begins. Sounds kind of stupid but I am in favor of it.

They cant enforce the laws we have now... Let alone new one's... Nice concept but the Utards around here will not abide!!!

Illinois also has some of the ugliest gun control laws. I'd hardly use them as an example. And btw....people are using the calls during the season. It's just a very early elk season for the archers.

Monday Morning I had 3 bulls screaming until about 10:30.
Can't wait for the final week of the hunt coming up.

I just got back from Colorado. It was limited unit. The bulls have been screaming there all this week

I was on the Manti this morning and had 4 or 5 bulls screaming right at daylight...I think it is here...Later, L.T.

I was up American Fork canyon checking trail cams heard on bugle this morning. Hey Brain trying to download some pics but having trouble any help would be great would like to put these up thanks.
