Any 2015 Utah Bulls Hit The Ground Yet?

The only thing I've seen is the DWR still trying to sell "unlimited" archery elk tags... LOL

My buddy killed a decent 5 point on the wasatch on sunday. I have seen a couple good velvet bulls in spacebook and thats about it.

>bull being pulled out of
>french hollow area on the
>wasatch

I have a feeling there are going be quite a few in this range come off the Satch this year. Good year to have a tag there!

DWR called and opened up the opportunity for myself and 4 other Wasatch Archery LE hunters the chance to hunt near current creek 2 weeks early and I ended up killing a pretty decent bull. We hunted hard to find this bull and made a good play that worked out in our favor.

Great bull, congrats!

Curious why did you guys get to hunt early? and how did they pick the 5 they did? Not complaining I don't have a tag over there just never heard of UT doing this.
Thanks.

There is a heard of elk doing some damage on a particular hay field at the bottom of a canyon. The land owner reported lots of damage in the 10's of thousands so the DWR selected 5 random hunters to try and put some pressure on the canyon. The elk are using the canyon to travel to thick timber so we only had access to some DWR land that they were traveling through. We turned up a few good bulls but hunted pretty hard to see any quality animals. All in all i feel real lucky to have gotten the chance to hunt a bit early and harvest a velvet bull! Here is another picture of him.

Would you be willing to tell me what property it was? Buckhorn ranch? Or baileys? Or another I'm not aware of? That is a SLAMMER bull congrats!

Nice bull. love the velvet.
If the landowners were having trouble with elk and they didn't allow you to access their property, then screw them.

LAST EDITED ON Aug-21-15 AT 08:44PM (MST)[p]That's an amazing bull. I love the velvet and hope you were able to save it. Pretty rare to see a velvet bull mounted.

Landowners have everyone over a barrel. They can get money from hunters for access, and also try to extort money from the DWR for wildlife damage.

IMO many of our Utah elk problems stem from elk quickly finding out they don't get bothered much on private land. Naturally that is where they want to hang out. So the public land bulls get killed quickly and the private land bulls just eat the landowner's hay and get old. No doubt they can cause problems for ranches/farms, but it seems that if farms and ranches wanted to get rid of the elk, they could allow hunters to do their harassing for them.

Kudos to you PR for taking full advantage of your opportunity!

ahh, very cool! congrats again on an outstanding bull!!!
