402" Northern Utah Bull

I wanted to take a moment and post a photo of this bull, since as hunters we all love to see these amazing giants. I was lucky enough to take this monster last Saturday in northern Utah with the help of some very wonderful people. Jake (in the photo) really pushed this old man across the top of the mountain when my heart was arguing with him. In the end, I survived and my heart was a little bit stronger for it.

This has been an amazing year so far. I was lucky enough to draw a NV muzzy elk tag for 72/74 in the Jarbridge. I am heading via horse tomorrow. I'll post pics, but don't ever expect to top this magnificent animal.

He is a really special bull.

You probably killed the biggest bull on the unit, good job he is a stud for sure.

My goodness, you don't see those like you used to 7 or 8 years ago. When you say northern, how northern are you talking?

Incredible bull. I would have guessed private Diamond Mountain, but good to hear that those big ones make it onto public or public accessible land.

It may have been killed on public but behind a large portion of private land. And it was killed with one of the guides up their.

I don't get on here much, but thought I would give a quick update. The bull ended up officially grossing 405 4/8 and could be entered as a typical or nontypical in the all time B&C book. I chose to enter him as a typical. He netted 386 typical. It's fun just looking at those antlers no matter what the score ended up being.

He was just a part time visitor to the mountain, so I don't feel too bad. Haha.

This bull made the hike over from Colorado. A friend found his shed from the year before in Colorado.

As a side note, when I left Utah and went to hunt NV with a muzzy I ended up killing a really nice 6x6 that scored 300. I'm glad I hunt for the enjoyment of the hunt and not so much for the amount of inches on their head. They are all amazing animals and worth the effort every time.

great bull, congrats.
there went the draw odds for that unit, they are now like .00004% success rate for drawing.

With the private land issues there will be a few suprised hunters if they draw this tag without doing research. It is not a cake walk. I have seen far more raghorns killed than mature bulls. Plan on scouting the summer and being the 1st to access the areas that hold the elk. Private does block a good portion of the public.

you are correct but people see this and simply apply without researching it.

If guys apply for this unit they should be in killer shape or hire the big outfitter. I had the archery tag last year...flew it, scouted 6 full days and hunted 12. It was awesome but tough with the private land issues. Sept 5 I was lucky enough to kill a really nice herd bull that had probably 100 cows. Definitely don't apply if you can't gain 1000' vertical everyday or spike out above the private land. The landowners don't mess around either they aren't friendly and most won't allow trespass fees etc.
Just my 2 cents
