Another photo from by buddy in Colorado, taken near his ranch, and still looking for his sheds.

Do you take the shot on this great buck?

You just know that any second, he's gonna bust outa there and you may never see him again. He's 180 yards away as he stands. Do you take the shot? If so, where did you aim?

If a good rest and a steady hold and I feel confident with it I take the shot. Hold center of the neck. When I first started deer hunting all that we ever took were neck shots.

That is one sweet buck! I would throw down the shooting sticks and shoot him in the bottom part of the neck. Hope he did'nt winter kill.

If he's only 180 yards away, yes, I'd shoot him; low in the neck. He's even on fairly level ground and near a fence....packing wouldn't be too tough. BUT the antlers would make the pack worthwhile if it was "all uphill".

Me Too! This is a rare instance where i feel a neck shot is warrented. I've lost 2 dandy Blacktails that were neck hit on shots that i felt i could make 9 outa 10 times. Don't much care to try and make it 3, but boy, do they drop fast when you're on the mark.

What a dandy, thanks for sharing the photo!

Naw I didnt take it, my buddy took it, and he didnt have the tag, takes alooooooot of points these days, it was a 4th season photo.

Sorry guys. I decided to sneak a little closer. Why take a chance on a buck that big? Aim for the throat patch and let the taxidermist worry about the hole.

Man, that would be a tough call.
If I had the 338, I might think about trying to push it thru that sage....but with the '06, I think I lay my horizontal on the white spot.

Both shots would depend on a steady rest. Otherwise, offhand, I would have to pass, fearing a crippling shot
