how do you approach this hunt. its a 5 day hunt starts this weekend. do you cow call, bugle or be silent? I shot a 5x5 last year, with out calling just a lot of walking and looking for elk.

Looking/Listening will never be the wrong move. Occasionally calling might get one to give up his location.
I like to find them in my honey hole bugling in the dark and then slip to within a couple hundred yards while its still dark with the wind in my favor.
Just as its getting light, hunt over
4 times in last 4 years I have done that, works for me. I don't call if they are, however if I don't hear anything with a few minutes to go before shooting light I call just to get them to answer.
Can also pattern the hunters and find the escape routes for elk. Did that my first few years hunting elk and worked great too.
