Nevada mule deer hunt question

Hey Fellas I am getting ready to apply for Nevada. I have 4 points and I am putting in for a unit I will most likely not draw. My question is I want to do a high country archery hunt in Nevada if I don't draw. Is there any way to do this with out using up my points? Is there an over the counter tag I can buy or am I out of luck? I looked through the regulations but couldn't find the answer I was looking for. I would like to keep my points until I can draw a great tag, but also want to hunt archery if I don't draw. What are my options? I would appreciate any info.

No there isn't any over the counter tags in Nevada, and if you were to get a high country archery tag you would have to use your points in order to draw for that particular hunt.

right on from above.Another option would be to BUY a Landowner Tag.Unit 10 has plenty of High Country and about 10 ranches with tags "For Sale" ---

I tried to buy one of those landowner tags and the price was right at $5000....A little to much for a guy with 3 year old twin boys.

LAST EDITED ON Apr-10-08 AT 00:40AM (MST)[p]Actually you can get a tag sometimes for a archery hunt and not burn a point. Unit 10 (101-108) in a few of the past years has had left over archery tags. If you put in for the second draw (this year the deadline is July 7) you may be able to get a tag and not burn your points. And after that draw (results availible July 18) any remaining tags go first come first serve. While there is no guarantee, and I would not count on getting a tag this way, it is an option should you not draw.

You still will burn the points on the second draw I have got a tag the last three years on the second draw and I have zero points.

Yes 6x7 is right it doesn't matter which draw you obtain a tag in either the first of the second you will still burn your points no matter what, the state of Nevada doesn't have any hunts that you can obtain without burning points other than landowner tags and depredation hunts that is it. And depredation hunts have points seperate from the regular hunts, but keep in mind you can only put in for one or the other not both! Look at the REG's and you will soon find out that what we are telling you is the truth.

LAST EDITED ON Apr-10-08 AT 01:36PM (MST)[p]I belive you guys, But I looked through the ndow.org website and the Regs and could not find anything that specifically spoke about the way Bonus points are treated in the second draw or with leftover tags, so I will take your word for it. I assumed that the secondary draw would not take bonus points into account since in states like CO and WY you can get drawn for your second choice hunt on the main draw, and still receive a point and a tag. So to answer the original question you could still possibly get a high country archery Deer tag if you are unseccessful in the main draw through the secondary draw, but you will lose your points.

The second draw DOES take your points away...but, if there are leftover tags after the second draw and it is first come-first served, I don't believe you get your point swiped. Not for sure tho.

You get your points swiped no matter if it the first, second or first come first serve, the only way you won't get your points is if you are applying for a depredation tag or if you purchase a landowner tag. I know other states do it different, but Nevada has been this way ever since they started the whole points system.
