I thought I spotted a nice shed antler about 500 yds away on a bluff....but it ended up being this. Sure wish this guy could of made the winter.

that sucks that he didnt make it, had he shed his other side or was it broke off. I found a skull a few years ago that had droped one side and the other side was still holding strong, kind of a cool find though.

Might have been a shoot and release from last fall. Was the antler shed, or just broken/chewed off?

That sucks, I remember that one spring, my buddy and I found at least 5 skulls from bucks that had already shed. One had huge bases, so he was probably a good buck. We never did find the sheds either. Lots of times they are just hanging on, but then one last storm comes in late spring, and puts them over the top.

That does suck....starvation or cat get him? I found a steep dark narrow canyon here in NM last weekend with 4 dead raghorn bulls and a huge dead old buck in it. Looked like a cat had made his living all winter long...frustrating when they don't make it through the winter.

Or could this be the result of being chased around by too many shed hunters trying to be the first to his horns?

He starved to death... the game and fish showed me a few years back to bust open the bone marrow on the femur...if it is red Malnutrition, if it is white--healthy and some other death cause.

A buck that big was sure to pass the genes on...Life goes on....Would be nice to run into one of his kids.
