Eagle Valley fawn recruitment........

With Vail probably going to top 500 inches of snow before it's finally finished I wonder what's in store for the 2008 season up against the Gore Range. Took my annual jaunt up 131 heading north out of Walcott this week and things looked ugly. Seeing the blood and hair on the road where vehicle/deer impacts occured always hurts but to see them right where signs are posted saying "DRIVE SLOW, DEER FEEDING IN PROGRESS" is a double whammy. Didn't see many fawns, carcasses galore and just a lot of skin and bones seem tell the story of the 2007-2008 winter. Also saw 7 elk above Vail and they looked awful tough.

And the building boom continues on the winter range.

I believe the good old days are here and now.

LAST EDITED ON Apr-13-08 AT 09:44PM (MST)[p]A lot of those deer along 131, come off of private, I doubt most hunters in unit 35 will notice a difference. Too many tags issued, too many hunters, and 4wheelers everywhere. Tends to be the same story all across the west.
