Utah or Wyoming?

Wife and I would like to hunt mule deer in the fall of 2009, but we are short on pref. points. For you guys who are experienced in both states, which do you think would offer a better chance at a respectable 4x4: a Wyoming regional tag (H, K, W) or a Utah general tag (northeastern, northern)? Thanks.

Should be a good deerhunt year. The deer are on the move to the mountains and see lots of mature bucks that made the bad winter we had this year. And with all the snow pack that hasn't even started melting yet they should grow some nice horns.

LAST EDITED ON Apr-13-08 AT 11:11AM (MST)[p]Put in for a deer point in Wyoming this year. Then hunt it in 2009.

Longun, im doing some work in la barge in a few weeks. while i was up there a few weeks ago i was out looking around it looks like alot of the deer pulled through. they must be tuff buggers surviving in -30 below conditions. I hope i put in for the right area so i can hunt around there but i dont know if i did

Wyoming for sure. Get your pref-points during the July to Sept point only period and getting your region tag will be alot easier.

Sure, get your point in the point application timeframe like stated above for Wyoming.

You should be able to pull H, K or W with 1 point next year.

Thanks guys. We should get our Wyoming pref. point because we applied for the nearly impossible area 102. Then next year we'll put in for one of the regional tags. I'm considering Utah because some general tags are usually left over after the Wyoming draw comes out.

Dryboot--the toughest part of Mule Deer Hunting around here is getting the Non-resident tag. If you know how to hunt Muleys the rest is easy. Last year the Game and Fish only issued 800 non-resident tags for Region G. Don't know what will happen this year. Good Luck on the Draw!

Definately go to Wyoming. I live in northern wyoming and theres some big deer up here. My dad guides for Powder River Breaks Outffiters, and they get a lot of really nice deer. This hunt is also all walking and on horseback. I dont know if that matters to you or not, but others really seem to enjoy it. And you are prety much guaranteed a license. If you would like more info on thi type of hunt call Joy Voiles at (307)736-2451. If you decide to call, you can tell her Colton Malli Gave you this information.
