Just wanted to throw this one out there. Has anyone herd the rumors of the DWR changing the size of our units in the southern,SE, Central, North you know, pretty much across the board in 2009? I have heard many rumors floating around about where boundries would be and so on, but like I said, I have not heard the DWR's take on it offically on the record. I for one think it would be one the best things this state ever did! Micro managing our deer herds! I know states like Wyoming, Nevada, and Colorado do it and it seems to be working, what do ya think?

That would be fine by me.

Lump the current Pref points on Gen deer and LE Deer Bonus Points into one point pool and apply every year like now but like other states with one type deer draw.

+1. I suggested that a few years ago and people freaked because that could take away their yearly opportunity.

Last fall I attended a RAC meeting where they were talking about some of the changes with the deer managment plan. In that meeting they mentioned that the current 5 year deer management plan was going to expire this year and the DWR was wondering if they should explore the possibilies of setting up a micro-management plan with in their next 5 year management plan. The RAC members and attendies wanted the DWR to look into the possiblities and present their finding sometime this summer. If everything looks good they will use it in the next 5 year management plan.

The DWR presented a possible scenario of having about 25 deer units. The way it was proposed I don't think it would have the impact on quality the people are assuming it would. There are only a couple units in the state that are below the managment objective of a 3-year average of 15-20 bucks per 100 does. Those few units would have a minor tag reduction and those tags would be added to some of the units with higher buck to doe ratios. I think the idea needs some major changes if it is going to be worthwhile.

I love the idea of having all deer tags drawn from the same pool like CO or NV to eliminate point creep. Also, rather than restrict opportunity, I actually think it ensure that those wanting yearly opportunity would be able to have it. You would just have to choose, do you want to hunt every year, or build points and draw a trophy unit? If anytime you drew any deer tag it took your points, it would be easy to draw a general season region as long as you put it as your first choice.

I am really interested to see what comes out in the new poposed 2008 deer managment plan.

Have it so that your 1st and 2nd choices take your points and 3rd--5th do not use all your points...

So I do Henries bow buck 1st, Paungs bow buck 2nd and Wasatch Front bow buck 3rd....I hunt my Wasatch Front bow buck tag most years...or 4th choice North Slope bow buck....or 5th choice West Desert bow buck...

Sure Wasatch Front would have to be a draw unit....

I have no problem having to make a choice to bow buck hunt or even mzzy/rifle hunt every year....dump the 2 year waiting period....put the Bonus points and General Preference points all into one-type point pool.

How about this Idea? Dedicated hunters only able to hunt thier unit drawn, (I am refering to no more statewide archery!) and use thier prefrence points to get the opportunity to be in the program. I am not against DH, I am one, but I would like to see people be able to draw out in southern utah LE units alot quicker than 10 years! I think you should loose your points if you draw your first choice, and not the second choice, but I belive that utah would have to change the way they draw tags? I think the way it stands now is the DWR looks at everyones first choice before moving to the second, I think that at least your first three choices should be looked at before they move on.
Getting rid of the LE statis on units to me makes sense, just have every unit labeled separate but come from the same pool of prefrence point holders, like nevada does it.
