I just found out that the draw results will not be out until June 12. That is over two weeks later than usual. Two additional weeks of uncertainty. Brutal!

Apparantly the sheep and goat results have been delayed even beyond the posted dates. I hope this does not happen with deer and elk too.

That's 2 more weeks to earn interest on everyones money !!!!!!!At the rate the DOW moves I'll be lucky to have my refund before it's time to leave for Colorado. Why do they ask you if you want a refund if you don't draw your tag [when you apply] and then after the draw they send you a letter asking if you want a refund instead of sending your refund that you allready stated that you wanted!!! For the same reason they push it back 2 more weeks. I know they have 860.00 of my dollars.
Correct me if I am wrong but all of the tag numbers are allready set aren't they ?

COLO3D:

CO posted goat on 5/1, desert sheep on 5/2, and bighorn sheep on 5/6.

The website says the planned dates for posting of antelope, deer, and elk are May 30, June 12, and June 10 respectively. My records indicate that we got the results last year on June 8 (antelope), June 1 (deer), and May 24 (elk). Hopefully they will post earlier than their website indicates as they have done in the past!

Good luck in the draw...

OUCH!!! Kind of makes it hard to plan ahead.

Why does everybody always B!tch about it? If you can't afford to be away from your money why apply? Quit whining.

It's Bush's fault!!!

You #####, but put up with it because it is something you want. Should I draw comparisons to the opposite sex?

It's about two weeks later than usual. It depends on how much you scout. I tend to travel a lot for work throughout the summer, so I need every day that I can get. So, yes, it matters a lot to me.

Don't care if they wait tell july.
In my mind I'm going hunting until they tell me i can't. The longer they wait the longer I can plan and think about the hunt.

Take a kid hunting. You will enjoy it more than they do!

How do you plan on scouting when you don't know which unit you've drawn?

With the Preference Point system and draw odds posted you should have a pretty good idea what you're going to draw. You know what you put in for, so scout the one you think you'll most likely draw, and if you don't you'll be ahead for next year.

Any scouting you do before July will be pretty much worthless anyway.

The area I hunt recieved a LOT of press in the off season so I think there will be a lot more people applying.

I archery hunt so summer scouting is much more relevant.

LAST EDITED ON May-09-08 AT 03:34PM (MST)[p]Scremim its not about the money getting returned to me 2 weeks later, but 2 weeks is a big deal for some of us atleast because if I know I did not draw CO 2 weeks sooner than 6/12 I would for sure pony up the $142 non-res license and fees to put in for the ID draw (due 6/5). If I did not get drawn for a ID controlled hunt I would get a general ID tag. And NickJ this year no Pref-point data from years past is for sure in Colorado due to the big cuts in the # of Deer tags! Some units could have some dramatic swings in the # of Pref-points required (up or down)after cuts due to the winter kill. I'm probly going to put in for ID, and if I get my CO tag I'll eat the ID license, unless I get drawn for both and then its 2 trips this year!

I bowhunt too and I've scouted early a lot of times in the past, but this year the snow is still several feet deep in many places over 9,000' and it's still coming. You must hunt low country if you can even get there before June.

As for the unit getting a lot of press--that's potentially going to affect me this year too. There's a topic I could whine about! I have to wonder if we hunt the same units. Even if I don't draw this year I'm done with it. There are similar units that are easier to draw.

I see where a guy could get frustrated, but in the long run it's just not a big deal to me.

It would only take a few minutes looking at the newly approved tag numbers and last years application data to figure out a ballpark estimate for this year.

If I was worried about taking 2 trips or not, I would definitely take half an hour and crunch some numbers rather than not hunt either state. On the other hand there were a lot of units that didn't drop many or any tags so those odds will still be close.

If there are swarms of guys with lots of points switching units I haven't run into them. I've talked to a lot of guys who just applied for points this year.

LAST EDITED ON May-10-08 AT 12:42PM (MST)[p]3D,

Still have plenty of time to scout after July.
Just not in a hurry to have them tell me "soory folks, parks closed"

Good luck on your draws!!!

I hear ya, but it IS mainly a psycological thing. We know they are usually posted around June 1st, so we anticipate it.

However, their brochure states liceses in the mail by June 20, so by that, they are still early.

With GE being high resolution for the entire State, you can scout 24/7 from home. No reason why you shouldn't know your hunting area like the back of your hand the first day you get there. Whether the animals are there really doesn't matter since you are limited to that unit anyway and that's where you are hunting, deer or no deer. Try it, you'll like it...;

UMMMMM........Okay?

I don't think I would... women dont understand men and men dont understand women...it'll never end...

Well, I don't like the system either, but it is what it is. They have had all the info since April 1st or so and I see no reason for them not to do the draw until early June.

In my case, I will not be able to plan my resident tag situation, based on my Colorado draw success.

If I had my Colorado info about May 15th, I could decide where else I can hunt this season.
