I am moving out of state this year and will lose my UT residency, and would like to draw my elk tag this year. I have enough points to draw this archery elk tag. Is it a fun hunt? Plenty of public? What sort of bulls are available?

Thanks

Oops, just saw you said archery. You might be in bonus pool territory, the archery hunt can be tough though. If you can hunt the end of the season and the rut is going you could shoot a nice bull. Lots of 300-340" bulls on this unit, with some real monsters running around

last year 1 of 5 people drew with 3 points.
So not in the bonus pool last year. I be that will not change next year.

Well you probably will draw that tag but there is one thing that might stop you the hunt moved back 5 days and will be a Utah bow hunters dream this year it will be right in the pre rut ,last year it ended on the 11 this year it ends on the 16 wish you luck bud.

Lots of Utah archery elk hunters skipped LE draws last year
because of hunt dates.......

There will be a spike in LE archery applicants this year..
Most LE archery elk permits will require a point or two
more to draw this year than was needed in 2015.....

I had this tag last year and it was a very tough hunt indeed! I spent 16 days hunting and saw good bulls almost everyday but I just could not get close enough to a big bull to get it done (320+). I would do it again in a heart beat, but I think I would have a little more success next time. I learned a lot and had many close calls but as others have said the hunt closed to early and I had a steaming bowl of tag soup in the end. PM me and I will share a few of the details and things I would do differently.

Coyote, my mother drew this tag in 2013 (rifle) and took her first bull. A really cool 5x. You've helped me before and I'd love to return the favor. There are some great wallows and permanently built tree stands I found in the area we killed that would be awesome for the archery tag. You should have my cell. If not pm me if you draw and I'll share all the Intel I have. It would be a really fun tag especially this year with the dates

Good deal on the tag! I sent you a pm
