I hunt the Snake river breaks in Washington. I want to apply for a tag that covers the snake river breaks in Idaho, unit 40,41,42. Which would be the best unit to apply for. I dont need any secret spots I just want to know a decent unit. 22-25 inch buck would be fine.

if your going to apply for a controled hunt dont wast your time in those units. Pm me if interested in other unit info

If your happy with an average buck, I would look into some other units that have better drawing odds. Just a thought.

The units that are in the snake river are units 31,22,18,13 and 11. Unit 31 has small bucks, 22 has great bucks and is a rut hunt if you draw. I am unfamiliar with the others but do know that 11 is a great hunt also. The units you are talking about are in the Owyhee drainage. They have some great deer if you know where to look. Drawing is another matter. Lots of country down there. I my humble opinion, The units would rank, 40, 42 and 41 respectively. With 41 being the easiest of the bunch to draw. Good luck in the drawing

Buckmaster,
40,41&42 get hit hard during the "Two Point Only" season. There are some good bucks out there but not as many as you might think for a controlled "Rut" hunt..
Just my 2 cents.......

Two Point only general season hunt + Late season controlled "RUT" hunt = VERY FEW QUALITY BUCKS...........

I have hunted unit 40 twice and done pretty well but a big buck is not all that easy to find. Not an easy tag to draw.

Unit 11 if you can draw it. And if you draw it don't shoot a 22" buck.

The units you talk about in the Owyhee's won't look anything like the Snake River Breaks in WA. Unit 11 does.

While I wouldn't say its easy, a 22" buck is a very reasonable target on nearly any general hunt unit in the state.
