I heard 30 head of elk were all killed by a pack of wolves.
I believe that they were all killed just a few miles
out of town.
Between Hailey and sunvalley.

I just got off of the phone with the Jerome F&G office, and they said they have reported 33 dead elk over the winter at a feed station, and 12-of those were killed by a lion with kittens, and the rest were normal winter kill but no substantiated wolf kill. They are doing an investigation to make sure on the other carcasses to try and determined cause of death. Yeah i hunt unit 48,and was concerned as well,i was ready to drive up,and take revenge l.o.l.!!

LAST EDITED ON Apr-06-16 AT 07:45PM (MST)[p]Well that's much better than them being killed by wolves. Although that is some serious winter kill in a herd that was being feed.
Thanks for the info.
Wonder how bad the deer kill was there?

I went and checked it out yesterday. There were 30 to 40 dead elk around the feed station. It was terrible. The feed station is located west of Ketchum about 10 miles. It didn't look like wolves to me, a mountain lion makes more sense. All but 2 of the elk were calves, so I was thinking it was toxin related. Better go kitty hunting next winter!

Hey Foxbow,

The majority of the deer migrated out of the valley for the winter. I think we may have lost some resident deer, but they are moving back in and look healthy. I have been out shed hunting and the elk look really good too. They went in super healthy, so I am not really worried. If it hadn't warmed up in February, we would be in trouble

We were there last May/June and there were a good many wolf tracks out Deer Creek rd. West of Hailey.

Hey thanks for the report
Glad to hear that most of them make it thru the winter.

LAST EDITED ON Apr-08-16 AT 01:38PM (MST)[p]No wolf kills some were killed by a lion some got trampled, others starved to death.

Also they lost 20 due to hay stacks collapsing
on em, and 20 more died from eating toxic plants in peoples yards and the cemetery .

I've seen a few other dead Elk laying up on the hill sides in the area lately.

Plus I recently found a couple'a dead bulls out fishing at Magic just trolling the shoreline,
they're pretty decent bulls too.
Found em in unit 52 but they were probably from either unit 48 or 44.

The elk had a hard time up there this winter sounds like. Thanks for the news article.
Hope the deer make it thru.

Thank you for posting that. Although we still have an extreme wolf problem, it's good to know they aren't decimating the feeding grounds. Dam humans screwing everything up.
