Elk Hunter Gifts

I was recently posed this question from a non-hunting friend;

Random question for you. We are buying a retiring coworker a retirement gift this month. He is a big hunter and specifically likes bow hunting elk. We were going to spend up to $1k on the gift and I was curious if you have had any recommendations on a good gift for someone with that background. I know you're an avid hunter so appreciate any suggestion you might have!

If the guy is a regular hunter I assume he has all the necessities. What do you guys think would be a great 'NICE TO HAVE' item for your hunts that most of us do without?

You are correct, if he is a "big" hunter, he likely has the essentials. With that in mind I would focus on the luxury items that he may want but have not purchased for himself. For me a satellite phone would be an awesome gift that I consider a luxury for most of the areas I hunt. Could save his life someday.

Same thing came to mind for me, actually found this at cabelas

seems like something most of us should have

My awesome wife had an elk ivory ring made for me for our 10th anniverary. I drew up the design. One of my prized possessions. A friend of mine named Ernie King in provo utah made it.

Find out what bow he shoots and get him a similar but upgrade 2016 model in the same brand.

A gift certificate for some high end boots.

Those are two things I'd like were I in his situation.

Lifetime membership in the RMEF. It'll be $1500, if you end up getting that much.

In addition to supporting elk and elk habitat, it comes with the following:
?Lifetime subscription to Bugle Magazine
?Permanent membership card
?Invitations to local events
?Engraved plaque
?Life Member jacket, cap, lapel pin and decal...bet he'll proudly wear those items.

Does he have a nice range finder. Or some optics he doesn't have. Maybe some 15 power binos to mount on a tripod. Or a gift card toward some nice optics. If he shoots a lot maybe some electronic hearing protection. Those are a few things that come to mind. Hope that helps a little.

put a down payment on a hunt for him, would force him to go and he'd thank you for it! :D
