I have a friend and his Dad draw this unit. This will be his dad's last elk hunt. He barely gets around and is basically handicap. This unit contains tons of private property. I'm hoping to find him an affordable trespass permit.
We plan on hunting public land for the other tag. I've spent some on this unit but not a lot. If anybody has any advice it would be much appreciated . We plan to start scouting as soon as the road over Monte is open. Thanks in advance

After drawing a LE deer tag in 2011 I figured I would play the odds and start collecting points for LE elk. Never thinking I would even draw I ended up drawing this same tag with one point in 2012. Earlier in the year we had a scare with my father and cancer. He has never been much of a hunter and always went along with it as I was growing up just to appease me. Every once in a while when I was telling my stories of hunts he would mention that he would like to go on a big elk hunt sometime. After our little scare and the timing with everything it just seem to fall in place and I thought that this could be the perfect time to get him out on a hunt. I am pretty familiar with the cache meadowville unit and knowing that the unit has a lot of private and a lot of low sagebrush on the backside and where the elk will be for the early hunt they will be near impossible to get to. I did just as you are doing and hit up the fine folks here on MM for further information. Through all that I was given the names Clint Kearl and Greg Wamsley with Kearl Ranch and Outfitters out of Round Valley. Sorry to drag this out but I ended up calling them and booking a week with them. At the time there prices were very reasonable, not sure what they would be now. They let my dad come along at no extra charge, provided meals a place to stay, the works. We had an unbelievable week seeing elk and other critters every day as well as listening to bulls bugle all night in the low pastures during the night. I held out as long as I could and ended up taking a fine bull on the 6th day with dad looking right over my shoulder. We met some great folks that were there in camp as well, some even brought there own trailers to stay in to have there own touch of home. We had a great time and it was definitely worth it to me to go that route. I never thought I would do the guided hunt thing but given the circumstances I wanted the odds in our favor to make it the best time as possible. He still talks about today.

Between the Kearls and the Wamsley's they own a huge portion of the northern end of the unit that is all mostly elk country as soon as you leave pavement. That's my two cents on my experience with that unit. Just another option I suppose. Ill see if I can get a picture on here.....

Best of luck!....If you think about it down the road I would be curious as to how you guys do.
