I was lucky enough to draw a Muzzleloader tag for this unit this year. Just wondering what everyone's thoughts are on this hunt. Not sure if I will go guided or not but would love to hear Suggestion's on who is the best to book with for this tag.Starting researching today so I would really appreciate and any input.

Thanks in advance for your time.

Jeff

Hunted it a few times with dad, brother, friend and myself. The muzzy hunt is awesome. Buddy's bull went just under 400", mine 350's and grandfathers was a big five. I would look to camp around spike hollow/mountain home reseed.sulpher springs produced some good bulls last year. Jason carter killed a bull in there during muzzy.
Keep in touch. Be glad to chat sometime.

jtshedhead ,

Thanks for your help and congrats on a pile of big bulls. I will definitely give you a call one of these days.

Check out Hightop Outfitters. You will not be disappointed. Tons of references and successful hunters over the years. Excellent elk season last year all over the state. Message me if you want some more info or want to chat with someone about options.

+2 on Dustin Burrows

However, I drew one of the NR archery tags in 2014 and went unguided. Shot the bull below on Aug 30th by myself a mile from a road. I had a couple that were bigger but couldn't get on them. If you're looking for a top end bull a guide will be helpful, but if you're good with a 320 to 340 bull you could do this hunt DIY. FYI - I spent one day up around Mt Home and the chainings and the entire area was crawling with people. I left and never went back.

++++Dustin Burrows he flat out knows this unit VERY WELL!!!

I was fortunate enough to pull the early rifle tag in 2014 and Dustin was a huge part of my success! He is very knowledgable of the elk and their habits on this unit.

Last years hunts were very TOUGH considering the later than usual rut and weather patterns. The elk were not keeping to their habits in years past. I know of quite a few people who either ate their tags or turned them in before the hunts due to the conditions.

Dustin had 2 hunters that he guided to bulls grossing 360 and 380?.he is who i would contact and book with if i had this tag in my pocket!!

Here is the bull he was able to put in my lap on my hunt.
He also had an archery tag that year and took an awesome 365" 5 point

Don't know of dustin burrows !!
but an not impressed with my knowledge of hightops recovery on bulls , to many hunters not enough quality, imo , and I have pics , names and dates to back these facts , I can even give you adams broadhead back on one of the bulls,
I pretty much live on this unit and would love to share any info , pics of past years bulls , this is really a simple diy unit if you know anything about elk
