I EARNED MY 9TH POINT THIS YEAR IN 2008 FOR DEER, DOES THIS MEAN I HAVE 10 POINTS UPON APPLICATION FOR THE 2009 DEER DRAW ?? TRYING TO FIGURE HOW F& G COUNTS THE POINTS.....ITS PART OF THE DEAL...THANKS...YD.

No. If you "earned" your 9th point this year (2008) then you will have 9 points going into the draw next year (2009). If you are unsuccessful next year then you will have 10 points after the draw.

Packout-

Don't you get your 9 "bonus"...PLUS your name goes in?
That should give you 10 chances on your 10th year, no??

you will have 9 points which will give you 9 draw numbers (chances) PLUS your application next year will give you 1 more draw number (chance) for a total of 10.

LAST EDITED ON Jun-12-08 AT 11:58AM (MST)[p]He gets 9 chances for the points + one for the current application. So he would have 10 chances, but only 9 points going into the draw. He still only has 9 points for the draw next year (2009). I understood the question along the lines of checking odds. He only gains the 10th point AFTER the 2009 draw (if he is unsuccessful).

Packout has it right. You will have 10 total chances next year. One for each point and another for your current application. The drawing odds provided here on MonsterMuleys does consider all 10 chances in the calculations. One thing to be aware of however is that the odds are currently based on your point level going into last years drawing (2007). This will be updated to reflect the 2008 odds as soon as the application reports are available.

I beleive we were all on the same page, but packs right about the draw "odds" only going off your current bonus points, not the total points you'll have at the time of the draw.

With 9 points going into next years (2009) drawing, you are probably not going to be guaranteed a permit. Remember that the odds in the system right now are based on the 2007 applications. If I understand you correctly, you would have had 7 points entering the 2007 drawing. Being unsuccessful back then gave you 8 points going into this year where you earned another point giving you 9. To show your odds accurately, you need to enter 7 points. If you look at the odds report for the non-res books rifle tag, at 7 points you are still a couple of points below the bonus level. Also, every couple of years the "bonus level" steps up another point. That level may have been at 10 points here in 2008. To be sure, we will have to wait and see what the 2008 application reports say. Either way, if you want the tag, get your name in there. 50% of the permits go to applicants outside the bonus level.

I'm sorry if this ruins your night.

Good luck,

Jon

JON.....THANKS FOR THE INFO. I JUST WANTED A BETTER IDEA AS TO WHEN I COULD KNOW I HAVE THE TAG WRAPPED UP. ANOTHER YEAR OR TWO IS OK WITH ME......BUT I HAVE A BUDDY BUGGING ME ALSO TO FIGURE IT OUT. ITS ALL ABOUT THE PLANNING, I REALLY LIKE YOUR ODDS SITE.....THANKS FOR YOUR INPUT...YD.

You will have 9 points and if you put in for a hunt and are in the group with max points for that hunt -That is no one with 10 pts or more applies - you will be in the first draw. 50% of the tags go to max point holders in the first draw for that hunt.

Say there are 10 tags for a hunt. There are 10 applicants with 10 points (they were the highest point holders who applied -there are others with more points in the system but they did not apply for this hunt) the 10 will go into the first draw and 5 will draw a tag - the remaining 5 will go into the 2nd draw with everyone else with 9 numbers in the draw. Max point holders applied in a specific hunt actually have 2 chances of drawing.

If you do not draw - next year you will have 10 pts.

Does it make sense? Nothing is guarenteed but some of the hunts are almost even wiht less than max points.
