Hunting gear?

I have been hunting Utah archery for about six years and have yet to find the right equipment to keep my sweeting to a minimum and stench down. What combo of light weight gear (pants, boots/shoes/, tops, and layers) do you use? Additionally what brand? Do you change and wipe down when you get to your "honey hole" or tree stand?
I drew a Manti LE tag this year and want to do all I can to make it a success. Thanks in advance.

To keep your sweeting problem to a minimum, either add less sugar or add more salt. :) Just giving you crap!

I hunted a few years with two individuals who were polar opposites in this regard. One wore the top of the line camo, rotated shoes/boots everyday, washed his clothes in scentless detergent, sealed his hunting clothes in a vacuum sealed bag, changed when he got to where he hunted, used a ginormous amount of scent killer spray, etc.

The other guy used Wal-Mart camo, the same boots everyday, and would spray down only before leaving in the morning.

What both of these guys did amazingly well was play the wind and minimize their movement. Both have been very successful hunters, but I can't say that one was more successful than the other.

I agree with hammer time, my hunting partner sweats like a pig and manages to arrow an elk most years, his expertise is working the wind and going the extra mile, no matter what you do you won't fool an elks nose !

yep, you can only beat an elks nose by playing the wind. However, if you want to be able to stand your own stench, merino wool base layers are the best by far for controlling odor. You couldn't pay me to wear synthetics.

A elk will see you once, twice and three times. But he will only smell you once. Stay down wind. I don't think all the gimmicks out there will fool a elks nose. A few may make him pause for a second or two. But then he's gone. I try to control sweating by walking at a pace that doesn't have me to my hunting area like a wet dog.Leave earlier if you have to. I also wear a pack that allows air between my back and pack. That has helped me a lot. You drew a great tag ! get out there and enjoy your hunt!
