18 seconds to shoot! Can you do it?

You've got 18 seconds!
I know this one is big enough! Could you get your rifle off your shoulder and get setup to touch one off before he's gone in 18 seconds?

I put him down at the 9 second mark. Or maybe nerves get me and and he's in the next county because I flung one over his back? Good looking bull.

Been there, done that and it cost me an elk many decades ago. It has never been repeated because I don't use a sling while "hunting" and I've never "accidentally" killed an elk.

BTW; I could get the gun off my shoulder in time **IF** he didn't see me first but they can really cover the terrain when they see a guy moving around trying to ready his rifle.

Yep with time to spare, That bolt action would sound like a semi.

The Monster Muleys ad lasted 2 seconds.

At the 3.5 second mark when he lifts his head and gives a clear view of his eye guards, I pegged him as over 350 which is a shooter in my book and the gun gets shouldered. If he is within 200 yards the trigger gets pulled within 3 seconds if I'm standing and off hand (this has been practiced over and over). If I take longer than 3 seconds to pull the trigger off hand then I get the shakes (just let "instinct" take the shot).

If he is between 200 yards and 400 yards then I need 3 seconds to unshoulder the gun and get the bi-pod extended and 2 more seconds to get the shot off at a kneeling or sitting position.

If he is between 400 and 600 yards, then I need a couple more seconds to shoot from prone.

if he is within 600 yards, it is all over within 10 seconds. If he is over 600 yards then I'm sneaking closer.

I'm guessing this bull will score around 360 - 370.

Exactly why I do NOT carry my gun in my pack. I just recently started having a sling on my gun. However I do not use sling either if I think I might see an animal.
Easy shot, out in the open and broadside.
I'd be halfway to him on the ground before your video ended.

I like to think I could do it. I'd shoot. I think he is north of 360 but I had to watch it a second time to decide he was over 350. Nice looker

I would have emptied my gun by the 10 second mark and had it reloaded and at least one more shot off by the end of the video.........

Someone just whispered in my ear that I'm way way way off the boat for not thinking this bull cracks 350 like over 30" off....someone who has his sheds! Haha again what a cool, truly GIANT bull!

I would have my 30.06 Remington slide action and 4 clips empty before the 18 second mark...
and that elk would still have time to give me the bird!

If a hunter is going to be successful on elk, he darn sure better be able to get off a shot in 18 seconds. Often, the opportunity on big Bulls is less time than that.

I tell my hunters they should practice getting a shot off in 5 seconds. Sometimes with a big bull, that's all you get; maybe less. We had a bull a notch bigger than this one at 180-250 yards last year, walking across a hillside with a few trees. The bull was in sight for about 45 seconds and was mixed in a herd of cows and other bulls. The hunter never saw him and the big guy walked over the hill and disappeared. The guy ended up killing a 320 bull later, and it was likely more than he deserved. Spotting game and being able to shoot quickly and accurately are skills that you sometimes need to whack a big one. A guy the year before shot a big bull on the same hill in the same circumstances. Killed him in 3 seconds flat and he scored 362.

One of the reasons the last guy was slow was because he didn't want to lay his rifle over a rock; thought it might get a scratch. Amazing.........
